Update from Metlink: Was cleared at 9:30pm.

Nothing to do with the incident, but I thought trains can't terminate at Boronia or Bayswater for that matter?

Edit: I just realised there is a crossover north of Mountain Highway, but they must be running trains back and forth along 1 track between Boronia and Ferntree Gully. I didn't know it was technically possible to do that.

Services can be terminated at Bayswater as platform 2 is signalled for bidirectional running. There is a crossover on the up end of the station allowing access to the up line from the sidings.

See the signalling diagram here: http://www.vicsig.net/index.php?page=infrastructure&name=Bayswater

Boronia, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be equipped as a turn-back station. Beats me!

More info from Connex website:

-----
8:50pm BELGRAVE LINE: BUS SERVICE: Bayswater / U.F. Gully, Buses in operation due to a car blocking train tracks near Boronia Stn after a car accident.

9:30pm Belgrave Line: TRAVEL ALERT: normal rail services have resumed between Bayswater / U.F.Gully after a Motor Car was removed from rail lines.
-----
I thought something was fishy about trains terminating at Boronia. Wrong info from Metlink!

I wonder how a car can block the tracks near Boronia Station unless a car drove off the bridge? Confused

All the roads leading down to Underwood Road nearby the station have a mighty steep incline. Might have been a car out of control.

Boronia may have been the closest station
