This morning there was a small derailment at the McKean Street crossing north of Caboolture Station. One container flat appears to have derailed through the switch (southbound). The train, headed by a single 2800 Class, came to a stop across the crossing. When I walked past to take photos at about 930, the security guard who was observing wasn't keen to let me too close to the tracks, so I couldn't tell how much damage was mad eto the road surface, due to the amount of ballast spread across it. A PN class unit rescued North the rear half of the train (including re-railed container flat) at about 9am, long end leading.

Some photos to come shortly, as soon as I can find the cable...

Network Ten arrived at about 945 and took a few seconds of footage opposite St Peters primary school, and the Channel Seven chopper arrived overhead at about 1030, and missed all the 'action'.

The PN it think was 13 came from Palmwoods, its load was left behind to rescue the rear of the derailed wagons. It took them back to Palmwoods and detached and returned to its train. It left around 13:20 towards Brisbane.

Other sightings:

6car Ice providing shuttles between Elimbah and Nambour

6car IMU 160 on the mainline at Elimbah

CTT 5404 trailing Beerburrum loop

2300-1720 cattle at Eudlo

RTT at Nambour

6car IMU & 6car SMU 260 in Nambour yard.

#Y798 was the derailed train. The PN Class Locomotive was sourced from #87P6.

Later on in the afternoon, (part of) #Y798 also continued it's journey to Brisbane.

I'll have to check the locomotive numbers.

So whats the story, are there delays or disruptions as a result of this or the storms?

That would explain why my twice weekly ride into Brisbane (#1980) was cancelled today luckily there was an announcement and I was able to take #1570 in.

2836 was on the front of the QR train when I took photos.

While the derailment could have been a result of the storms, I don't think it's likely. The storms were done and gone a good three or so hours before it derailed, and #Y798 surely wouldn't have been the first train through afterwards.

Sorry. Went over to the girlfriends place to check the damage (one dead Gum down, a few smaller trees, no damage to people or property, fortunately).

Reports in the local rags say there were four wagons derailed, and that it was at 1115PM.

They got "off the road" and went on the road.

Not my pictures;

I've been hearing of a few of these derailments, where the head of the rail is breaking off the shaft <insert correct term here>, and I get the sneaking suspicion that it's a fairly recent phenomenon...

Looks like they've done a good job there. The rail has broken like glass ...
