There was 85 was there... was that leaving Maryborough or was it arriving at Ballarat... did that account for person catching or leaving the train at Creswick.

These details are very important.

ABC News Post  Tuesday:-

"Rail users keen to use restored service

Posted Tue Sep 21, 2010 8:27am AEST

V/Line says the number of people using the recently restored Maryborough to Ballarat train line has exceeded its expectations.

Train services between the two cities began again in July, after a break of 17 years.

V/Line spokesman James Kelly says about 40 people are now using the two daily passenger services.

He says V/Line will continue to evaluate passenger data before deciding whether or not to add more services.

"Experience has told us that to really drive a lot of passenger growth that there does need to be a lot more services but what will happen is we'll just wait and see what the growth is at least for a little while and then see if those services do need to come into play in the future," he said."

What! one trip per day, don't be crazy, otherwise I'll have to start posting in the bizzare, stupid, idiotic and crazy idea thread.

Goverments don't spend that sort of money on one trip per day...
They do initially, remember Sherwood Park Exclamation

That gives plenty of opportunity to increase services when the 2010 campaign starts, and they can compare that to Ted's and Agent Mulder's virtually non-existent PT policy which doesn't even figure a returned rail service to Maryborough.

Mike.

PS Ararat was originally planned to be a minimal rail service and look at it now Exclamation

Which would be even better if they can somehow provision for return trips from Ballarat.

The volume of V/Line bookings I personally make - and the proportion of Seniors Free Travel Vouchers plus Seniors Week bookings versus the trickle of adult and concession bookings, sweetheart.

Sorry if reality intrudes on your dribbling gunzel fantasies.

I asked for facts not opinions on this matter. you clearly can't provide hard facts so you resort to abuse. Says a great deal about the assertion that you make

Poor ickle Blinkey.

I've provided a lot more than you have. If you want me to abuse you, I can.

I could also say that 40 people fit into a bus quite well...

Is it 40 per day over 2 services or 40 per day per service.

If the former 40 per day then the thing is a disaster.

If the latter 40 per trip then take off the Vlocity put on a Single Sprinter and run it as a shuttle Ballarat - Maryborough with 3 0r 4 return trips on Weekdays.

I don't see the government crowing about it, so I guess it must be 40 per day.  Where's our man from Maryborough when you want him?
Nostradamus has his vision of increased frequency, which I don't doubt will eventuate before the election, but the reported amount of passengers using it is disastrous. Shocked

You'd be entitled to conclude that 40 people means 40 distinct people - ie 70 - 80 separate boardings.  Otherwise Mr Kelly ought to have said 40 trips are made per day.

There needs to be a morning service from Melbourne to Maryborough.
Lunch time departure from Maryborough back to Melbourne which will allow Maryborough residents to travel and spend a few hours in Ballarat and return on the PM service ex Melbourne.

......or at least a shuttle or two between Maryborough and Ballarat during the day to connect with Ballarat-Melbourne services.

Way it reads to me is that 40 people are using the two daily services - which is what? A Toyota Coaster-ful each way?

It would be interesting to know if the 40 people using the rail service per day are in addition to the people who currently use the bus service (i am assuming their is one) or are they people who have transferred from the bus to the train for the equivalent journey?

I would assume that a lot of the Melbourne-bound passengers on the train would be pre-existing passengers who would formerly have used the rail/road service via Castlemaine which runs at nearly the same times.
  Blinkey Junior Train Controller

From my experience, there is a mix of passengers who previously used the buses and new people who would drive to Ballarat or Caslemaine and catch the train  rather than use the bus.

The goss is that Vline have or are at present setting the timetable for the Melbourne - Maryborough - Melbourne service and it will be announced fairly soon

That's pretty good.  Better than I thought and better than has been reported last year.

Still room for improvement though by improving bus connections at MBH to points further North.
