Awesome. Now the machine is rendered completely inoperable. I hope they aren't assuming this will be a rare occurrence on the network. Do you have any information about how much force those screens can take Revenue?

Hi everyone,

Welcome to your guide to Myki TLAs
(that's three letter aronyms!)

FPD: Fare Payment Device (eg. myki validator)
CVM: Card Vending Machines (eg. kinda like a ticket vending machine)
TOT: Ticket Office Terminal (eg. used by staff inside the booking office)
SEM: Stand Alone Enquiry Machine (eg. used to look at your last few transactions)
BDC: Bus Driver Console

Smile

Thus endeth the lesson.

Thanks for that, I was the one who suggested 712M start using the acronyms

Just a word to 712M -- Perhaps MFDF or whatever it is, BAK - Barrier Adaption Kit? Being that the barriers will be replaced with new ones in the end.

Also, A few Ventura buses have been floating around with Myki
Havn't noticed anyone else yet

It's funny how they used the terminology- CVM, when it fact it doesn't really vend cards, but rather paper tickets with a RF chip.
  Speed Minister for Railways

So, will the tickets be made of paper or cardboard?

My point is that they're still cards.

Both Smile The short term tickets are paper with the RFID embedded. A proper Myki card is indeed plastic.

My understanding is that they can take more force than the current equipment. Don't forget that they are a sealed unit which protects them from more traditional forms of vandalism (eg. putting things/liquid into the slot). At the end of the day, if some anti-social bastard wants to take a crowbar to a piece of ticketing equipment, then there's not a lot you can do about it really (except replace it quickly). There are some people who just like to vandalise new shiny things - hopefully the appeal will wear off fairly quickly. Vandalism is trending down - more people using public transport means more people around, so the sexually repressed w**kers who destroy stuff are less likely to do stuff.

You'd think they would put a large sheet of perspex over it like ATMs have to stop vandals smashing them. I don't think the tram timetables get much damage, the only one I've seen replaced was Box Hill's one.

Aren't they touch sensitive though? A sheet of perspex might make that a little difficult.

Came across 2 brand new myki validators and a blue standalone enquiry machine at one of the most unexpected places this morning:

Nunawading Station Platform 1

which I guess would be in real use for just a few weeks before being stripped down again?

Heatherdale station was upgraded to Myki sometime between yesterday and today both FPD's and a CVM installed on platform 1 and I could see the FPD's in place on platform 2.

They'll just remove the Myki Equipment during the main shutdown and reinstalled it once the new Nunawading Station is complete

Aren't the new Myki machines at Brunswick monitored by CCTV?  Hopefully footage has been given to police ...

South Yarra's barriers have been upgraded (that was the only thing done that I saw) and by the way Camberwell has only had it's barriers upgraded when I went through there last week. Platform 3 is still without Myki and no other equipment could be seen.

I haven't seen a single tram 57 with Myki yet.
So not all the Essendon trams are done.

Seen all of the tram 48s for a while with Myki.
So at least some of the Kew trams are done.

Was at Newport earlier.  The ticket machine screen has been scratched and tagged.  All validators have been scratched as well.

Seems CCTV is no deterrent to the ferrals.
