I'm not here to either condemn or condone what has or has not happened in relation to maintenance, but My God, from some of the posts you would think that United Group via UMTL and MainCo have a conspiracy to reduce Melbourne's railway infrastructure to a unrunable miasma of obsolete heritage equipment........struth....is life really that bad??

It is your fault if you make statements like this, without checking your facts:
"DalyWaters"

So I should keep a buisiness directory handy so rivet counters (its only 20% after all but enough to denigrate someone with yes?) can feel secure that I know what what I know and no one should correct me politely?

Do you teach children like this too? Clap them over their head when they get it wrong? Be a man will you, learn some respect!

Hey, you were the one who made an outrageous statement.  I pulled you up on it and you get all nasty.  Good luck to you.

When you are on a forum, you can make statements with a degree of impunity.  However, expect to get caught out if you make silly statements without checking what you are saying is correct.

A signal fault at Southern Cross is preventing trains using Platform 12 this morning and this is causing knock on effects on other platforms at Southern Cross and Flinders Street..

Let's try to find a bright side to the Glen Waverley line incident
Metro chief executive Andrew Lezala said the company had great experience in fixing faulty pantographs.

Mr Lezala highlighted $100 million in extra funding provided to Metro by the Government to maintain Melbourne's train fleet that would mean such faults would become less common.

By the way, is this damage that needs to be fixed or does it just mean that they had to turn the power off?
Yesterday's shutdown on the Glen Waverley line happened after a damaged pantograph ... caused a major short circuit. The fault caused damage to five kilometres of overhead power lines between Gardiner and Burnley stations.

It ripped out about 9 - 10 droppers. However, they had to shut the whole section down to effect the fixing of that, as well as on top of the disabled Silver as well. Obviously in that Herald Sun photo above, the overhead was off.

UDPATE 8.45PM: A FIGHT aboard a Metro train is causing major disruptions for passengers on the Craigieburn line.
A man and woman approached another passenger on the train and attempted to steal her money and mobile phone, a police spokesman said.

But the passenger’s boyfriend intervened, leading to the altercation.

The train was brought to a halt at Kensington station about 7.45pm after the fight broke out.

Police ordered Metro keep the train at the station, which has blocked outbound services.

Metro spokeswoman Lanie Harris said this also was likely to cause disruption to inbound services during the evening.

Earlier, an equipment fault at North Melbourne caused delays of more than 25 minutes, affecting the Craigieburn, Upfield, Sydenham, Werribee and Williamston lines.

Probably would have been the late running 19:28 down Craigieburn which was a Hitachi set. Lack of CCTV must have attracted them to the idea..

Hi Guys,

I was on this train going home this afternoon. It was the 4:36pm from FSS to Craigieburn. We were running about 4 minutes late into Glenbervie at around 5:02pm when we just stopped.

i was in the second carriage from the front and saw 4 ticket inspectors run past i looed back and saw a group of teenagers yelling and standing around.

People started getting off the train so i did to and walked back. Looks like the kid either did not have a ticket or was performing grafity and was running away from one of the inspectors, anyway he jumped between the carriages and was hit by a city bound train going the other way.

Both trains were Comeng.

Police arrived about 3 minutes later and then helicopters were overhead and ambos and the fire dept arrived. The line was shut for about 40 mins.

Teen hit by train in Melbourne

A 13-year-old boy is in a serious condition at the Melbourne Royal Children's Hospital after he was struck by a suburban train during an alleged graffiti attack.

Paramedics were called to Glenbervie railway station in Essendon shortly after 5:00pm (AEDT) to treat the boy, who suffered upper body injuries.

Police said a train driver saw the boy and a friend, 17, jumping between carriages on a stationary train at the station and alerted inspectors.

It is believed the boys were tagging the train, Victoria Police spokeswoman Senior Constable Alison Noonan said.

"The inspectors asked the boys to return to the platform. However one jumped on to the tracks and ran off while the other jumped off the train, onto the tracks and was struck by an oncoming southbound train," she said.

The injured boy was found between the trains and was placed on a spinal board and carried out by paramedics and firefighters.

Police have since spoken to the 17-year-old boy.

Trains on the Craigieburn line were stopped in both directions as fire rescue and ambulance crews worked to remove the injured boy.

I read all the complaints so what did we all expect Metro to come in and all problems would be fixed HAHAHAHAHAHA. The problems stem from further back than the current Labor Government. and to who ever wants JEFF back your dreaming Jeff caused alot of this mess by Leasing the railways. There is no quick fix solution to all these problems it will take time and money to fix all this. we dun have the money but time well we have plenty of that. Metro are doing the job that they are paid to do run trains. Fatalities, Vandalism and maintenance issues also don't help metro's cause.

Is this derailment still causing problems? If so how long until it is fixed?
