... previously, on "Archaeology thread #1"...

To keep it going I'll post one that won't last all that long.

Warks, OTTOMH your pic reminds me of Kenmore.

Looks like Victoria.  Stab at the other side of Bairnsdale?

After 582 pages my thread lies dead!  But it's alive again!

It is in Victoria.  No one is particularly close yet.

No one close yet, there's a working railway behind the photographer.

You missed my guess, Warks  Razz

Is it at Warnambool,  the old line running NW from there ?
  Warks Minister for Railways

Drysdale it is.  Missed the simultaneous guess - this site needs one of those "someone has posted something since you started typing your rubbish, you may care to review your post in light of this" type set ups.

Took a NSWer to get a Vic one!

Yes the Bellarine railway which ends (or starts here).  The view behind.

The piers were constructed to carry a railway bridge however it never carried a train.

Booragul ?

Not Booragul.

Here's a bonus view which may or may not make it easier - I posted the side-on shot as it shows the piers which are the only railway feature remaining. The deck was replaced or widened in the 1970s, judging by the style of guard railing used.

The piers of this bridge were built to carry a railway line but they never carried a train to the best of my knowledge. It has since been used for a highway.

The fact that it never carried a train / line stumps me - the landscape looks a little like Port Fairy

Could it be the bridge on the Theresa Creek Rd on the never opened Bonalbo Line?

Not Theresa Creek Road but we are finally heading in the right direction.

Casino.  Bruxner Highway perhaps just west of town.
