There has been some talk about doing a refurb of Ringwood rail station, does anyone know if this is still going ahead? or has it been shelved?

Funding has never been secured. The modal interchange is getting a rather significant overhaul though I hear. Part of a larger $30 million + town square redevelopment I think

The bridge and ramp looks like it has just about had it, its replacement should be twice as wide and there should an additional ramp directly down to Platform 3.
Flinders_Flyer where is that town square redevelopment going on?
The Arcade and court out the front of the library?
Because all the store fronts in and around the Arcade appear deserted these days.
And then there is the old Post Office its never been demolished and something else built there, come to think of it that'd be better a place for apartments than Mitchams suburbs...

Had a look at the old signal box lately? Thing seems as if it's falling down in the middle.

This is it, picture doesn't show it though:
I wouldn't say its falling down, but there is some sort of sagging depression in the middle.

Sagging depression? Well, it is Ringwood...
How do you get to the movies? Get to the baths? Get to the beach? How do you get to the theatre on time? Well, everything is in reach!

Look, I'm all for nostalgia as much as the next bloke, but when it's falling down.... Ironically the best place to see the sag is from in front of the new box on the platform - it's quite pronounced.

Pretty sure the Ringwood Market is still there, and it + surrounding parkland ought to be retained in any redevelopments. Shame to see in those designs the Library would be gone, they only built that in the mid-90s and it is quite impressive.
But considering those previous threads this looks like yet another empty promise.

The train station refub may be an empty promise but it looks like the ringwood market development is goign ahead, with a $50 million dollar development by Eastland's owners QIC. QIC is also planning a $500 million dollar expansion of Eastland.
Plans for the five-storey project were lodged with Maroondah Council on November 13 2009 and the plans include 16 boutique shops and a 12,000sqm “anchor” retail outlet - Costco, Ikea and a Woolworths hardware store are all being considered as a major tenant. The plans also include four levels of office space and a two-storey basement car park.
I'm led to believe that the demolition of the market has been completed/is almost complete.

2008 article
THE State Government will pump $39 million into Ringwood over the next three years.
Premier John Brumby said the injection of state government money would “shore up Ringwood as a major economic and employment hub”.
But Warrandyte state Liberal MP Ryan Smith said the funding, announced last week, “fell well short” of what was needed to redevelop Ringwood railway station.
“This will only create an attractive facade around the station when the station itself is the main issue,” Mr Smith said.
“I just hope that this is not ‘shut up’ money and that we see the balance of about $60 million in next year’s Budget.”
Mr Brumby said the $39 million transit city grant, to be paid over three years, would pay for a town square and a new bus interchange as well as safety improvements for Maroondah Highway.
Mr Brumby said “this first stage of improvements”, set to begin late next year, would create 1400 construction jobs and 1500 “ongoing” jobs in retail and office sectors.
“This project has enormous potential to shore up Ringwood as a major economic and employment hub,” Mr Brumby said.
“This announcement ensures that the Government is likely to lock in phase two investments in this area.”
He said the funding “complemented” Queensland developer QIC’s $500 million expansion plans for Eastland.
QIC director of property development Stuart Miller said the funding provided the private sector with certainty and would lead to greater investment in Ringwood.
Mayor Tony Dib said he was “absolutely delighted” with the funding but that the council considered it as “stage one of the redevelopment of the superblock which includes the station”.
“Council will be pursuing funding for the station upgrade as stage two of the project in the 2009-10 State Budget,” Cr Dib said.
“This funding will ensure a completely revitalised Ringwood Town Centre that offers a modern, attractive and inviting community space.”
No upgrade for station
PLANS for a revamped Ringwood railway station remain firmly on the drawing board despite a $39 million State Government injection into the Ringwood transit city project.
Premier John Brumby said the project would make Ringwood a “major economic and employment hub”.
But Maroondah councillor Alex Makin said it would not address the “crux of the problem” the physical condition of Ringwood station.
“They are addressing the cosmetic side of the precinct but people will continue to struggle day in and day out with those ramps,” Cr Makin said.
“Ringwood cannot be an economic and employment hub if it remains difficult to access by public transport. I’m concerned that this announcement will make it more difficult to get funding for the station redevelopment.”
Ringwood chamber of commerce president Terry Paget, a member of Ringwood transit city community reference group, said the government had shown a “true commitment” to the future of Ringwood.
“Ringwood is in a strong position to deliver and showcase the transit city concept,” Mr Paget said. “We’ve been concerned that things were moving slowly but $39 million is no insignificant amount.
“The train station is a complex project but this commitment indicates that the station redevelopment will go ahead in time.”
Renewed call for cameras
POLICE have renewed calls for CCTV cameras at and around Ringwood station as plans to attract more people to the town centre get a multi-million-dollar boost.
Ringwood Leading Sen-Constable David Allison, who submitted a funding application for 12 cameras prior to the recent federal election, said cameras were a vital tool in tackling crime at the station, skate park and nightclub precinct.
“If you want more people to come to Ringwood, the station has to be a secure place and it’s simply not at the moment,” Sen-Constable Allison said.
“There are incidents at the station all the time and cameras would make it so much easier to identify those responsible and to move on potential trouble makers.”
He said prior to the election the previous government had set aside $150,000 to install CCTV security cameras at Ringwood station but the funding was never released and the new Labor Government did not honour the pledge.
Deakin federal MP Mike Symon said the planned redevelopment of Eastland and the surrounding precinct made it difficult to foresee how future CCTV cameras would be applied in the area.
Mr Symon said he would support a funding application for CCTV cameras in next year’s Budget.
Warrandyte state Liberal MP Ryan Smith said it was “unbelievable” that cameras had not been provided.
“Ringwood station is a State Government responsibility and it should ensure commuters are protected,” Mr Smith said.
Government spokesman Michael Sinclair said all metropolitan stations had CCTV coverage.

Well thats from 2008 so the bus interchange has already been rebuilt unless it is referring to something elsewhere.
Speaking of Police, they've had a strong presence at Ringwood lately: 4+ cops milling about the bus interchange, going through the platforms, big truck parked out the front of Platform 3, etc.

The Ringwood Market was demolished earlier this year, if not late last year. All that's left is an empty block of land and the car park.

There's now talk about Eastland extending southwards towards the railway station, gobbling up the near-dead retail precinct in Melbourne Street and Civic Mall.
I remember reading the local paper that they've (Maroondah City Council) has already found a suitable temporary location for the library should works proceed. QIC said that works are on track to begin in late-2010 provided they get approval from the Council.
The bus interchange at Ringwood is going to be upgraded soon as part of the Town Centre Rejuvenation project, but whether the station gets redone is anyone's guess.
This is an artist's impression of what Ringwood Stn's Bus interchange may look like:
As you can see, the station appears to be untouched.
