Countrylink delays

I wonder what the on-time stats for the Syd-Mel line are looking like in recent times. CountryLink can't seem to take a trick. The on-board staff and drivers must be sick of the whole show.

Seems like an endless parade of issues: mud holes, ARTC track closedowns, floods, freight derailments; let alone any matters to do with CountryLink's own trains.

This would seem an appropriate place for these items rather than all over the place I suspect.

Once they get the train back together and on the tracks, are they going to run empty to Sydney?

I would guess the train will either run back to Sydney empty either under tow or by its own power if its declared safe enough to travel.

As of 1430, trains are running via South Brisbane again. XPT and two cars still derailed at the site, no sign of re-railing in the immediate time.

Rear loco and non-derailed cars are stabled on Platform 2 Roma Street.

Looks to be considerable damage to the bogies of the power car, however that is just by my non-maintenance qualified eye. Will be interesting to see how/when they take the set to Sydney.

The CountryLink website now lists all the flow-on effects (including Melbounre and Grafton services) of this latest incident.

It shows once again just how little wiggle room CountryLink have with their rolling stock. I wonder if management ever get around to expressing this problem to their political masters. Or do they just accept that they are the poor relation of NSW transport waiting for a final mercy killing.

Not a good couple of days.....
The 'flagship' Broken Hill Explorer is cancelled today and tomorrow (apparently due to adverse weather....I am not sure exactly where the flooding is). It must be pretty bad, as they are normally pretty reluctant to cancel this popular service. Folks won't like the idea of sitting up in a bus from Broken Hill for 14 hours.

The Griffith service, cancelled yet again on the weekend (for 'operational reasons'). I wonder what percentage of scheduled services to Griffith actually operate? Will this service survive the next state election?
Trackwork this coming January will see it again cancelled for several weeks....

Just tried to make a booking from Tumut to Strathfield for 6 January and there seems to be no services available between 4 Jan and 9 Jan.  Can't find any info on the website.  From the 9th it says buses run from Goulburn to Sydney.

If it were booked out it should say so rather than the "no service" message?

EDIT: I just found that as trains are running via East Hills for that week you can't go to Strathfield!  Nice if that message came up instead!  Only found it by trying different combos and choosing Sydney not Strathfield.

On which day? The Elvis Express is running on the weekend. That takes the XPT used for the Dubbo service, which is replaced by an Explorer. The Explorer obviously has to come from somewhere.

If anyone's interested I was on the 12:05 Sydney to Canberra on Jan 1 and suffered a 3 hour delay in lots of heat with no air conditioning after the train stalled short of Bowral and could not be restarted. Eventually we were pushed to Moss Vale to be coached in arriving at 7:30. Perhaps the locomotive is still out of service?

Starting to think this is the last time I'll take a countrylink service Canberra-Sydney. Most delays aren't that bad but generally poor service and it seems to routinely run at least 15 minutes over the already extreme 4 and quarter hours. Seriously how does CountryLink compete? More expensive than coach, slower running time, and only advantage is slightly more legroom and a buffet car.

I'm not trying to be a prick but is there any point posting verbatim what is on the Countrylink service status site?

I thought having this thread was about discussing the delays or providing more information.
