Unconfirmed report suggests A60 and P13 are the candidates.

"Dry" Storage of one V/Line "A" Class and 1 "P" class to occur this week I believe -  PN Loco A 73 has also been moved to the BG turntable. (re activated?)

Thanks Polar Tiger, I haven't sighted A60 for a number of weeks now so it may very well be that one. Its been stabled at the Southern Cross passenger yard.

Am I missing something? What is so significant about A60?

It was B60.  Class leader of the first main line diesel locomotives for VR
  AclassGunzel Deputy Commissioner

A60 is named after "Sir Harold Clapp" a VR commissioner (B60 was also named after him) which implies (to me anyway) that it was intended that A60 should carry on the legacy of his name when rebuilt. Having said that, there is nothing from stopping the loco being scrapped and the nameboards preserved in the future.

A73 was the first rebuild, I wonder if that makes it the class leader?

Should A's come onto the market I would actually expect CFCLA to snap them up. Would make ideal additions with a view to leasing back out esp in Vic. They have Ts Bs Ss ... surely they'd want to add to the set Smile

Slightly off-topic, but what happened to the "Harold W Clapp" plates that were fitted to B 60, or the "1 million miles" plates that were fitted to B 62?

The million mile plates are still attached to A62, or at least they were a few years ago.

I was just about to say something along the same lines, considering the S's and T's around still earning money I can not see why anyone would scrap an A class. With significantly more power than an S and newer engine, Altenator and electrics.
Last grain season I was talking with an EL Zorro rep about an S they were using that was sitting in the Albury yard. It had a nice fresh paint job and the rep said it just had 300,000 dollars spent on it redoing the under frame, seems to be plenty of life left in them still.

If the A's still can be used they should be used, in the long run possibly the best way to preserve them. Few machines are happy being stored for long periods.

The plaque on A62 was replaced with another during Victoria's 150th in 1985. I could be mistaken but I think the original 1,000,000 plaque and Harold W Clapp nameboard may be at the ARHS Vic Museum.

There should have been two 1,000,000 plates and four Harold W Clapp boards? If the ARHS has one of each, what happened to the remaining one and three?

i think they might keep the A's.

It is rumored that V/line will run Victorian Freight again, taking over from pacific national, so i guess fun times ahead. so they will probable whant the A's as some are in the new clours

This is from motive power August 2010 edition well heres the exstract cropped a bit.
