    Thanks for those great pictures - is it just me or the crossover hasn't been put into the catenary yet?  Looks that way.  Anyway, fantastic to see it taking shape, looks like a proper urban railway now.

    With regards to those signs, "Danger live overhead wires" is probably going to temp some ferals who otherwise (without the signs) probably wouldn't even be aware of them.  Oh well... as my old grandpa used to say, you'll never stop stupid people doing silly things.

    2 observations I made today which may have been pointed out already.

    Track has been laid at the Goodwood station for the Noarlunga Line and I see plenty of masts past Keswick heading to Mile End. I assume from this point onwards the bulk of the electrification work on the line has commenced and we should hopefully start seeing more masts popping up over the line at a more rapid pace.

    Just after the crossing are the footings for balance weight masts and stays. Masts have bolted bases


    The other masts are "planted" with the masts concreted into position.

    Great pictures masts are definitely getting installed at a faster pace now. Hard to believe there is only 2 and half months left now before the line reopens

    The silver cylinders are part of the subsoil drainage. Between them you will find a trench lined with geofabric with a slotted pipe in the bottom and backfilled with course stone.

    Not sure but I'm guessing they could be access points for the underground signal cables?  If I'm not right I'm sure someone will tell us.

    Thank-you for those shots 62240, I used to live not far from there.

    Remember to engage brain before responding to or asking questions on any forum

    I think the phrase "delivered to Marion Station west" might tell you something about the ultimate destination, the bridges are to the east of Marion station.

    There is a traffic advice regarding closure full or part of Marion and Daws Roads to erect electrification infrastructure. I suggest any gantries or masts will get delivered to the work site on a JIT basis to avoid double handling. West of Marion station is not a very accessible holding area for work at the bridges.

    Well I guess that's a nice way to avoid the risk of having to announce a delay, by not making any announcement at all until the last minute. Risk aversion at its finest!

    Lonsdale Crossover is not yet wired so sparks won't be using it yet. It looks like the wiring is only in place to feed power from Lonsdale Feeder to the Noarlunga to Seaford. The anchor stay has been installed behind the first concrete mast on the down side.

    The sidings have masts at the ready but are unwired. Note the baulk preventing entry.

    Another view of the sidings and overhead fittings. The cantilever is offset as a second cantilever will be needed for the crossover and siding wire.

    Thanks for those photos 62440 - there have been some really great informative photos of the work being done over the last couple of months, thanks again to all the people who have been doing this for the benefit of other Railpage users.

    EDIT: Do you happen to know what that building is in the background of the first picture, would that be Mitsubishi's old Lonsdale engine plant maybe being used by someone else now?

    I think the blue building in the top picture is a training centre run by PATC, that blue is their colour.

    Like Don I thank you for the pictorial updates.

    Do you know where the feed-in point is located? I know it is not visible from the footbridge you took the photos from.
    I expect it is from the nearby SAPN Pt Stanvac substation but I can't see a railway substation near SAPN's sub.
    There would be quite a bit of electrical infrastructure requiring one/two transformers, extensive static compensators and associated circuit breakers and isolators.

    I am pretty sure the blue building is PATC, but I don't recall ever seeing it labelled, I know they have a fork lift school to the south west, across the train line, but I am not sure if the building in question is one of theirs or not.

    Don, the top photo more or less has the former Mitsubishi site behind the photographer over their lef shoulder, it's looking down the line toward Lonsdale Station/Christies/Noarlunga/Seaford etc. The other photos are taken looking up the line toward the Lonsdale parking lot for trains/Adelaide etc.

    Take a look on Google maps, the old Mitsubishi siding is still there, now depicted running past some huge sections of pipe from RPC(?) - using part of the former site, (mostly) for the desal plant. To the east you can see some of the mis-winds and resultants from the destructive testing.

    PATC (Port Adelaide Training Centre) change their name a few years ago to ATEC (Adelaide Training & Employment Centre) to reflect their expansion to multiple sites through the Metro area
    They originated at Ottoway.

    That building in question is located on the eastern side of the line at 2 Sherriffs Rd Lonsdale, the ATEC site is on the western side of the line at 5 Refinery Rd, Lonsdale and is out of pane on the right side of the image.

    The footbridge the image would have been taken from is in the top left of the map noting the location of the crossovers immediately south of the footbridge.

    If you go into street view it shows the businesses there, however that was probably 4 or so years ago and may have changed.  I'd go have a look myself as it's only 10 minutes away but really can't be bothered Wink

    The rail substation is W of the line just S of the Meyer Rd bridge.  The feed-in is beyond the section overlap just N of the bridge.

    The sub is quite low profile, must be cable fed from SAPN and use gas insulated switchgear.

    I guess it all works. I haven't heard any bangs and the lights down our way have stayed on.

    I made 4 observations today


    1. Steel portal structures have now been erected near the former Keswick station

    2. Three steel portal structures have now been erected near the Adelaide station yard just as the Belair and Noarlunga Line goes left and I saw workers erecting a 4th Steel Portal structure as I was coming back into the city on the Gawler train

    3. Earthworks have now begun between the Goodwood underpass and Clarence Park station

    4. Masts are now being erected near Emerson station

    No sign of signalling yet.

    If there is it must be deliberately hidden.

    The Belair line can't start without it.

    I will be able to almost shake hands with the Millswood loop on Saturday so will report then.
