Interesting concept - when I clicked over onto this thread, I thought you were testing a new camera you'd bought, and my first thought was "take it back!"

Of course, if it's for remote viewing of sightings to tip off enthusiasts further along the line, then it's an excellent idea!

Progress.  The mounting pole has been installed today.  Next come the cameras and radio links.

Great work there Brian.  It's been a lot of work.  We all will appriciate it.

I bet the system will be overloaded a lot. I hope you have a replacement ready - the first one could be worn out in weeks Wink

That's pretty much it. Not intending harm to anyone, Just pointing out something in the method of which I generally do on here.

When is the cam expected to be operational and will pedestrians be visible in the shot? I'd be happy to visit the site and give a wave, but not if I have to trespass to get in shot...

Maybe you need to switch the nous on from time to time before typing.  You posted something very evanescent and near pointless in another thread this afternoon (to which I replied; you have not bothered with the courtesy, so far). So I agree with Brian, is the brain wired this arvo?

Baiting the site owner is a bit foolhardy, I say.

I would have preferred him to say thank you and be on his way.

2 cameras are installed to cover all rail traffic in and out of MFT from the West.  This includes all SG traffic and west of Melbourne BG traffic.

The Sydney XPT and Adelaide Overland are also included.

I think we'll close the subplot of Brendan's comments and your reactions. I think we can leave that between Brian and Brendan from now on.

( is no more posts re brendan's comments please or you might get in trouble)

Has there been any progress to speak of?  Looking forward to an early "view" of the northbound freights as they leave Melbourne.

Thanks for your kind words.  I am anticipating having a lot of the remaining works completed this week as the weather is now much better. I am open to consider a site in Sydney, let's get the first site up and running first.  We still need some software work done.

so far I have spent nearly $1000 on the project so if any of you guys are seriously interested in helping out financially then it would be much appreciated.  We also need to thank the guys at BigFish but that will come later as the site goes live.

Paypal is an option bevanspaypal.com.au or you can check the bank account details via the donations page.

Thanks to those users who have already donated funds. This will be used to help purchase a dedicated Database server which will fix the intermittent site issues.  (we are overloading another server which is not ours)

I have two cameras both different models.  Near 0Lux and IR at 10 metres so should just cover it.

Today the weather was very kind indeed and it was a pleasure working outside and on the rooftop.

Today we completed most of the cabling to the pole, installed a radio, installed the first IP Camera, installed the equipment cabinet inside the premises, installed power and routing.

Junction box for DC power terminations and power fed has also been installed ensuring we can connect other equipment onto the pole and we will have adequate DC power supply.

The view from the pole location looking down onto the track

A further angle under consideration.

The camera view from the street.

Should complete the first camera installation and online testing next week.

Thanks to those Railpage users who dropped in for a chat.  It was nice to see you all.
