Raichase doesn't blame either of them, given how ungrateful some of the clowns on here are.

Ben doesn't either, especially considering the stress he is sure both Michael and Brian are put through day-in-day-out by not only the Railpage application, but the users as well.

Seriously though, I commend Michael, and Brian.

I've been thinking about implementing a thumbs up/thumbs down/like/agree/informative/etc system ala rmweb.co.uk - but that's for another thread.

The guys here do a wonderful job. Take a good look around the internet.  You will not find a site quite like this one with trains and so many posts across such a wide group of topics.  And it is in English.

If you are going to implement a like system then we also need a way to view the most liked contributions.

The lovely soul at Gheringhap provided me with the link and said you can see grain trains come into the picture.  If you could offer that image on Railpage as a railcam image when it could sit in the same section?

So you mean scrape other webcams for Railpage? Not going to happen, for a number of technical and legal reasons.

The Railcam setup here is really quite remarkable.  There is not another site on the internet that I have both joined and reviewed which has the level of sophistication and detail these cameras and services have.

The persons responsible should be very proud.

You're doing that thing again in which you pretend to be Railpage staff. Stop that.

Similarly, I show support in the Railpage team for doing what they do. Not people who wish they were on the team to a point that they feel that acting as though they are is going to magically make it happen.

Also, reporting Raichase' post is only going to annoy him. He's right, mate. There are a lot of ways your post could have been better worded it's not funny. You're not a part of the Railcam project, officially. Please just... stop acting like it.

You like to post stuff that makes you appear to be something that you are not. As @Raichase said, Stop doing that. It annoys people, so don't do it.

We welcome your enthusiasm but you need to take a look at the way you word your posts. Look at the very first word in this post - "we". I'm posting on behalf of the Railpage staff, as I'm entitled to do. You are not 🙂

And we will expand it to open maybe 2 more cameras this year
X'Trapolis-904M

If you'd worded it as "Indications are the railcams will grow by another two this year" (or similar such wording) then there'd be no issue. Note: indications: Nothing is confirmed yet. Lack of the word "we": Not acting as if you're one of the staff.

The main issue with acting like staff is newbies get the wrong impression. They come to you for questions, and you don't necessarily have all - or the correct - answers. This is why even though I'm on staff here I have directed all railcam questions to Brian (and now to Michelle12) as even I don't have all the answers. If I can't answer all railcam questions, by what reasoning do you think you can? 🙂

If you count the Newcastle and Albion cams from the developer forum I would hope there would be at least two although I am not involved in the railcam projects.

Railpage has acquired an additional 2 PTZ cameras with ONVIF API programming interface compliant.  These should arrive in the next two weeks.

The plan is to place one of these cameras at Gheringhap and one at Albion.  Both are/will be connected to the Melbourne Wireless backbone. (Gheringhap is already, Albion just waiting for the roof pole install)

What does this mean?  It means that if Michael puts the time in it is possible to control the camera view from RP!

I will load some pre-sets and the users could select from a drop down box of pre-sets and the camera would respond to the request to change direction.  This could be to the up end or down end of Gheringhap Loop or as is the case for Albion, the BG/SG, Albion railway station or looking toward sunshine.

I also have an IPCAM which has SIP capability.  The camera can call you when a train is approaching and send the video to a video compliant SIP device over the IP network.!!

I am sure we will need some function testers so stay tuned.

@Xtrapolis, my knowledge is that being in the railcam group doesn't constitute access to Developers.

That said, first rule of inner sanctum is to not discuss inner sanctum. So @8077 shouldn't be discussing it.

Some work to do yet and I need to write up the requirement but these new cameras are nice and being ONVIF they can be controlled using the API.

Those on the development group will I imagine have access as required for testing.

This also raises the issue of who would or should have access to the cameras for the purposes of selecting pre-sets and how requests to access the cameras should be queued.
