Drove down Camden Valley Way this afternoon. Lots of tree removal just south of the Cowpasture Rd intersection, on both sides of the road.

Had another look at the work on the M5. Sure looks like they're building a bridge, not a tunnel. All the concrete is going up above road height just like retaining walls for a bridge. They're not digging down below the road level behind it either - leaving it up high like they're expecting to backfill. Anyone have evidence that they've changed plans after geotech evaluation?

Southern flyover is proceeding rapidly. There's a big tracked crane in place on the western side of the track lifting girders in to place. As of last night, almost all of the up ramp had been completed and pretty sure all the down ramp is now done.

Edit: Went past on the top deck of the train so got a better view - still about half the girders to be put in place on the down ramp.

The new concourse seems to be progressing well. Steps are down to platform level and some of the walls are being put in place too.

Over on the M5, the retaining walls are all but complete now. Still looks awfully like a bridge, not tunnel they're building there.

When heading south from Glenfield and on the Western side top deck.  You can see where the tunnel is going to push through.  But from the M5, yes it does look a lot like a bridge

yeah i just drove down to campbelltown today and even though I know it is going to be a tunnel, some of the pillons look awfully like bridge abutments and you wonder if they have the right plans, but that is the method that is to be used and the 110km/h signs are back up. so everything is a ok.

I noticed this very wet Wednesday afternoon that the Glenfield station isn't waterproof just yet. Wink Sorry about the DVA.

Can anyone tell me why they extended the station by 10 feet?
8 cars fit in there now.
Just seems odd to me.

Possibly due to the Waratah, possibly too that they might have to remove a section at the country end for fast turnouts and still have enough sighting distance to the signal for mainline trains.

Pretty sure it has to do with the turnouts as I remember reading sometihng in the original submission about adding some length in one end and removing it from the other.

That said, looking at the new platform 4 end, the concrete base comes up flush with the existing platform end, so they wouldn't be chopping off brand new built platform either....

On the construction note - private contractors obviously not union guys. This morning the surveyors and several work crews were out and about at about 8am as I went past - even on the sopping wet ground.

Is that a fact that construction is underway at those 2 locations? The video was only full of animations, nothing concrete. Poor old Glads, she would believe anything.

Does anyone know if that animation has been put up onto their website. I can't find it.

Yes, definite construction in progress. Easily visible from Camden Valley way where. See my comment earlier in the thread about seeing all the trees knocked down there.  I've been past a few more times since then and visible progress is being made with earthworks etc.

All the nicely packed crushed sandstone base for the tracks around the southern flyover has been redistibuted by last nights heavy rain. Looks like they'll have to start again.

Lots of reo appearing on the top of the new platform 4 so I expect that will be poured soon. Rest of the station concourse is rocking along too. Not quite enclosed but starting to look lke a real building now. There's also a very large crane sitting on the eastern side of the station. Not sure what it is there for as it seems overkill for putting in prefab stair sections.

Not having seen the area, it's hard to say, but having a large crane on site can be more advantageous when doing small sections due to longer reach for the same weight - ie, less moving of the crane, may be able to swing in every piece needed without having to relocate during the day. Price difference for the larger cranes is not ususally that great, and it can be better to have a larger crane on site than one just right......

Weekend shutdown has seen a lot of progress around Glenfield.

New OHW gantries on the northern flyover all the way from the station to where it joins back in to the existing track.
New points installed on the current platform 1 road that when set straight, leads over the northern flyover
Most of the construction scaffolding removed from the new platform area. Looks like most of the shell of the stations is done - covered in insulation and some outer panels now installed
Concrete poured on the city end of platform 1/2 to finally complete that bit (also during the previuos week the surface concrete for the new platform 4 was laid on the country end)

Still no sign of construction of the last portion of the northern flyover near the garbage dump. Apart from track, that's the last bit to do there it seems. There are some concrete panels with wavy lines on them that have been sitting there for the last 6 months or so, not idea where they are supposed to go. The dimensions don't seem to match anything on the existing supports on the flyover if they are meant to be decorative. Maybe someqthing for the walls going in down near the sation?

I noticed that there are gantries on the Holdsworthy side of the flyover on the up.  Also some clearing, as if to start with retaining walls in the same area.

I just noticed that Nearmap now has updated maps of Glenfield (as of 9th March) showing the entire SWRL progress quite well.

The photos must have been taken during a shutdown as you can see heaps of machinery on the track (and for quite a distance south).

The entire SWRL route can now be clearly seen with all excavation, bridge and station construction.
