SWRL Construction Progress

I would expect that the northern flyover joining into the Up EH line could be brought into use as soon as it's finished, thus avoiding the conflicting movement with Down Main traffic. They don't have to wait til the whole thing's finished, do they?

Does anyone know what this single piece of track is doing just a bit north of Macquarie Fields Station?

That's a set of points being constructed for the SWRL. Best guess, as I posted in the SWRL thread, is that these are for where the quad comes back in to a pair just after the southern flyover. Not sure when these are being installed, but you should see a second set being constructed soon. Doesn't seem to be anything looking like a full shutdown of both southern and easthills lines in the next month or so.

I checked the 'Next 6 months' trackwork schedule and noticed that the major weekday East Hills one was not there anymore.

I'd noticed that too. It was originally scheduled for last week, but then got moved out and now disappeared entirely.

Depends what you mean by "finished".

You can't connect the existing Up Main South at this time. You have to wait until the new Up Relief is put down which will connect with the Up Main South just before the Southern SWRL Flyover.

Of course. Better have another look at the diagarams.

Essentially 2nd part of #10 which showed the train going the down direction, this video shows the train going in the up direction.

Hey boxything - this flyover has nothing to do with the SWRL. It's all ARTC's SSFL.

Confused

Which ones are SWRL works on the South Line, North of Glenfield? Unless none of them are, except the one which curves towards to the East Hills line...?

The flyover between Mac Fields and Glenfield and the one north of Glenfield heading towards East Hills are NSW SWRL.

All work north of that are ARTC SSFL including the flyover / passing Loop adjacent to the tip.

Edmonson Park and Leppington Stations. A bit of a shame that so much of Rickard Street,Leppington was closed and virtually all the streets leading into Edmonson Park have been closed due to construction.

Thanx for posting the first shots of the actual SWRL branch itself, i.e. beyond the junction area. Speedy progress. Must be a marginal electorate!

Railfans are a strange bunch, that much can be said with honesty - if the government is too slow, all of the armchair experts come out to say so, in their "expert" opinions, they think work should have started long ago. If things are happening speedily, there must be some sort of agenda at play!  Laughing

To be fair, just because railfans point this out, doesn't mean it isn't true.  Although in this case, the agenda isn't exactly hidden, government wants a finished train line they built themselves within a term, they're improving Sydney's transport remember. If they deliver the Light Rail Extension and Stage 1 of the SWRL by 2014 and manage to bring forward delivery of SWRL stage 2 to say March 2015...well they might be in a position to actually increase their majority at the next election.  In any case it would at least give them a mandate to do basically whatever with the NWRL and say trust us we will give you a train to the city by this date...look we built these other two when we said we would.

Actually to be fair, the only way I can even come close to justifying the cost of building this ruddy train line is if they are building it at a highly accelerated schedule and even then...

The (state) Electrorate of Camden was lost with a big swing from Labor to Liberal. I might go to future Rossmore Stabling Facility next time as well. Red indicates that it's rich of iron oxides.

Lots of very high quality rural land out this way, but red soil isn't always indicator of good quality. All that s%^#{] red clay in my backyard is a prime example Smile

Closer to home at Glenfield, looks like they are starting to build the lift shaft on the eastern side, plus more glass.

Noticed this morning that there have been sleepers and rail layed on the north ramp for the fly over to East Hills at Glenfield.
Also they are making process on the earth works at the end of the ramp on the Holsworthy end.

There is some information about the upcoming works on this webpage (look at the "Construction Update" PDF links near the bottom).
http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects-southwestraillink/south-west-rail-link-current-works

Finishing works will continue on the rail flyovers and construction of the track formation and installation of new track has now commenced on the Northern Flyover. Construction of the exit ramp that connects the Northern flyover structure to the East Hills Line is also underway.

Basically, the weekend work in July (3 weekends) will involve...
delivery and installation of rail, overhead wire structures and wire. Excavation of footings and cable routes will also occur plus track tamping and adjustment.
