Suggest you read the Austrains newsletter where the project status and ETA is all quite clear.

Hijacking the thread slightly, does anybody have any pics of the pre-production sample(s)?

cheers,

We can't have pics of pre-production samples being leaked - might allow people to point out problems they can't be bothered fixing like with the DL!

And risk getting put to the back of the line.

But it's been two years, another two weeks wait probably won't hurt. Smile

Guys don't turn this into a winge and bi#ch about Austrains.....

The 81/G/BL project is coming... And pictures may or may not be released of the samples... John is currently overseas and should return today or tomorrow from a visit to the factories. An update on stuff should be out afterwards.

Why not, they whinge and moan about every other manufacturer Rolling Eyes

Bottom line is, if you want instant gratification, don't pre-order, as the factory release dates are wildly optimistic and usually inaccurate.

As some people do, (me for one of them) wait for the model to hit stores and see it first hand rather than risk pre-ordering and then getting a model which you don't really like. To me, I don't mind paying an extra 50 dollars after the pre-order price if it means I know I am getting the real deal and I can see the model and have it in my hands. The pre-production models have arrived and were available to look at, at the 2011 Liverpool Exhibition (You had to ask him though) At first glance the body work looks quite accurate, sort of like a souped up, more detailed version of the Powerline body with a better mech. But we won't know until the real deal arrives.

I totaly agree with you waiting to see the modal In the stores, then deciding If you want to buy It.

As I paid $345 for one of these modals over 2 years ago, I rather I didn't do that, as still had my $345.

And yes when the modal came Into stores and was for sale for $395 "so what" !

But then you can benfit from discounting too with run out modals (that was done with the Auscision N Class diesels)

I prepaid in this case on the gamble that competition (Powerline) will drive them to produce a more accurate model - I also wanted to secure a sound version. Of course at that stage they were meant to be deliverd over a year ago (Feb 2010 newsletter stated late 2010), but to be fair this sort of delay applies to all the importers.

Not to mention general disrespect for their customers, and a public dig at people on this forum.
Oh Dear, the would be gurus on Railpage didn't even come close guessing what our special announcement would be. Think laterally.

I already have my Austrains powered Bl/G/81's, I simply put C class chassis's into the Powerline bodies with very minor alterations to both. They now run excellently and look a bit better as well. I have only now to fix the fuel tanks on them for them them to be closer to the original. I still might get a couple of the full Austrains versions of them though, at least mine will now be fully compatible with the new Austrains coming model.

Not sure of what to make of this; just googled Austrains BL class and this appeared in the image search:

http://www.dccsound.com/commonwealth-railways-anr

Scroll down to the BL and theres a very neat, definately-not-powerline picture of a BL, and the description says the sound decoder is suitable for the Austrains BL. It's possible it's a PSM BL (If they made one?) but its RTR for sure.

I thought I'd throw it out there and see what everyones opinion is. I am looking forward to these models big-time.

anyway food for thought.

Curious to see if painted samples or the actual models make an appearance at the Corio Exhibition this weekend.

Just wondering if anyone has been called by Austrains to confirm payment as mentioned in their 5th Jan news item? Haven't received anything yet but just wanted to check with the community before following up.
