Hello

I am no expert, but.....

Why isn't the new rail line from (West) Deer Park to (South) Werribee STRAIGHT!?

The map I just saw shows two ridiculous dog legs in the new train line.

If you are going to make a new train line reservation, why the hell would you put ridiculous bends in it??????

I am extrremely disappointed with the Victorian PUBLIC SERVANTS who come up with this outrageous garbage.

I could be wrong but I believe the land out in that area is virtually undeveloped..... there is no reason for stupid DOG LEGS.

Why are they making every single train for the next 100 years SLOW DOWN for stupid corners that have no real justification?

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

WHAT were you THINKING when you MADE ALL  of those STUPID capitalisations? There THERE THEN, take a BEX AND have a good LIE DOWN, or your BLOOD PRESSURE will go higher THAN IT probably ALREADY IS.

Trains don't slow down for "bends", these are curves and the curve radii are designed for line speed. There are many issues in route development, you don't just draw a straight line. Obviously your knowledge in this area is limited.
No need for ranting, a polite question would have sufficed.

I hope the poster hasn't been out to Bacchus Marsh - there'll be an inquisition as to why the line doesn't go direct to Bankbox Loop in a straight line too...   Rolling Eyes

I hear curves in railway lines only last 100 years, after that time they straighten out.

Some of the more complicated ones they need to use a straightener on.

100 years is a very long time... Smile Must be a very long process and use lots of UV light in the process or something? Razz

Though technically, that kind of happened at the Parwan Curves just out of Bacchus Marsh. Razz

The route chosen for the RRL is after several detailed investigations of various options .

The route is not entirely flat or un-developed or without watercourses etc . Taking all these things into account the new route was settled on.

The alignment and reservation width allows for up to 6 tracks eventually  (2 x RRL, 2x Metro, 2 x SG) and for no curve speed lower than 160 kmh, which will be the
VLP line speed .  So trains will not be slowing down to go around the curves.

The junction flyover arrangement at West Werribee allows for the RRL line to be the Main Line to/from Geelong, and the current track towards Werribee will be the diverging move at 65kmh .

The initial junction at Robinsons Rd Deer Park West will have the Ballarat leg as the straight track, and the diverge to Werribee west with 80 kmh turnouts .

When Melton is electrified there is to be a separate pair of electrified Metro tracks from Sunshine to the junction, with altered arrangements at Deer Park West Junction . then duplicated electrified track continues as far as Melton .

I think you'll find the curve of RRL off the mainline at Deer Park is only 130km/h not 160km/h.    had to copmromise as at the eastern end there is new residential subdivisions (east of Robinsons Road) and at the Western End is the Boral Quarry and the prisons and need for space for future roads as well (eg. Christies Road extension).

I heard that the alignment was designed for 200 km/h, with the curves temporarily built for 160 km/h.
