the like button idea comes up in every second thread... so why not have one Smile
"gilberations"

As in, a Facebook "Like" button? It's been in the footer of every discussion thread and in the sidebar of every news article since RP3 was launched Smile

also, how about a gallery page, where all posted photos are automatically copied and redirected to a single thread?
"gilberations"

Not quite sure what you mean here, but you got me thinking of something else: at the top of each thread, link to a gallery showing all photos posted in that thread

When i say a Like button, i mean like a facebook like, not a share on facebook like, so you can like an individual post as opposed to a thread like you do on facebook to like a status or photo etc.

and the gallery idea would involve some sort of macro built into the website codeing so all IMG and BIGIMG codes get automatically copied and redirected into their own thread so there is a simple collection of photos.

I think Gilberations means like in Xenforo.

Can we have a thread search tool, so you can only search a particular thread, and not the entire forum. Would be especially useful in the Models Wanted/For Sale threads in the model railways forum (scenario: I have a loco I don't want, I'll search the Models Wanted thread to see if anybody wants it) and also The Wagon and Container Pictures Thread when one is looking for photos of a specific wagon/container.

See where I'm coming from?

Transition away from the email notification system to RSS, to include forum sections as well?

I would hope not away, but perhaps as well as. Email is fine for me, and I would expect many of us here.

Of course, it wouldn't hurt to keep the email notification method. But RSS is a better, newer and more current method to keep up to date with regularly updated content types. Basically RSS does the same thing as email notifications, but not all websites have this function but is a more 'standard' way of doing so. I wouldn't place RSS functionality too high up in the priorities, if there are better things to implement though- but something that could be considered.

RSS isn't exactly new, it's been around for a long time. Everyone will be different but I prefer to use email rather than RSS so would definitely prefer to keep the email option.

An RSS feed is pretty much like having another email account or another forum to check - perhaps useful for people who want to avoid clogging their inbox because they have a huge number of subscriptions but for those who only have a smaller amount of subscriptions, getting notification via an email they already check every hour/day/week/whatever is easier.

May I suggest duplicating the "Mark all forums read" button on the forum index up the top of the page, as is done for each section?

Also perhaps convert the "View posts since last visit :: View your posts :: View unanswered posts" stuff to buttons to match the rest of the site?

SEPARATE  -Forums- & -Private Messages-

Up along the top of the page, we have a line of 'pull down menus'.

At this moment, the Forums pull-down-list also contains the private message options.  This gets worse, when items from each are all mixed in with each other. Would not be so bad if say Forum items where at the top and PMs where down the bottom.

I strongly feel these two should be in separate pull down lists.

COLOR HIGHLIGHT TO MY OWN POSTS

Where you currently highlight the name for Moderators and developers with different colors, there needs to be one that highlights my own posts as I search through the forum thread.   This would help me locate 'the last post that I myself had placed'.

When replying to a PM it would be very handy to have the text of the PM you are replying to available under the editing box, that way you can refer to it to see if you have fully answered the subjects raised.

I know you can copy the previous PM into the message, but that is messy.

Hi Geoff - press "quote" instead of "reply" and the text from the previous PM will be in the box with you. It's not really messy, just press 'Enter' a couple of times and push the text further down. You can then delete it when finished.

What about buttons which automatically insert the open and closing tags? Particularly [quote] and [img] That would be useful.

Thank you. I was hoping it would be done in a similar way to the way previous posts appear below when you are replying to a subject. But in any event, it is no pain to 'quote' then delete.

The PM module needs to be rebuilt, hence why some of the functionality is different - eg "Reply" on the Forums == "Quote" in a PM Smile

Might be a minor thing, but automatically having "Notify me when a reply is posted" auto-ticked would be handy/nice. Not a big effort to tick it, but I've forgotten a few times it's not ticked then wondered why there's no replies to popular threads! Laughing Perhaps the same for Attach signature?

The mobile site does get a bit squished on my WinPhone7 mobile IE when viewing threads. Even in landscape mode the threads don't fill the screen. I know I'm in the minority with a WinPhone7 handset... Smile

Another one, if at all possible, to be able to turn off (per user) the 'in-built' spell check so Firefox's one can be used straight away? Again, not a massive deal, just another if possible idea. Very Happy

Other than that, site's flying along! 8)

It's always ticked for me, I'd suspect it's a setting you have switched off. I think it's listed as "automatically notify me about replies" in the settings.

I don't remember switching off, but thanks for that, I'll have a look-see in the settings, then. Very Happy

EDIT: actually, it's only for quick replies, it's ticked automatically in the "full" reply window... Confused
