Personally, I rarely (if ever) have any issues relating to the site itself. The greatest strength of Railpage (which is also it's greatest weakness) is the membership base. There are a lot of considered, intelligent people here who share information and generate interesting discussions. The problem arises when other members derail threads by posting garbage and just pointless nonsense. I'm not talking about people who's opinion I disagree with, more the "usual suspects" that post one-line comments that do nothing to add to the thread. The "herring" feature is an excellent start, but perhaps increased action on the part of the moderation team in this regard? I have never had any issues with reports, they are often dealt with quickly, and I understand that the moderation team is subject to the constraints of "real life" as much as anyone else here. I would be happy to cite some example threads (not members) in private (so as to not be accused of going after certain members or topics), although I suspect this would be fruitless as the threads in question are no doubt already well known to the moderators.

It's only broken because of changes I made to the code. When the latest dev code is pushed live, it'll be fine.

Michael, the new Railpage is first class. My only concern is that, when a thread is opened on the most recent page, and one wants to view the current posting(s), the top of the page comes up and one needs to scroll down to the bottom of that page for the latest. Maybe it should be the other way around where the current postings appear when the latest page of the thread is opened.
One more thing. I think there is something wrong with the Miscellaneous NSW Sightings thread where the latest posting one can view is '13 Mar 2012 21:47' and there have been postings since this time. Thanks.

I like to check the "New Forum Posts" for items about events in Australia. I am generally not interested in overseas news. We lately seem to be getting a large number of overseas posts. For instance since I last logged on there are seven pages of new posts and at least four of them are overseas news. I accept that others may be interested in these but I have to do a lot of scrolling to find posts that I am interested in. I wonder if other people find this an inconvenience.
I would like to suggest that "New Forum Posts" be split into "Australian" and "Overseas" sections.

A better suggestion is to be able to select New Posts only from the forums you are interested in.

"Graham4405"

I read the forums in the same way as Graham4405, and although sometimes read the odd oversea post, mostly it's just a lot of pages to skip, with maybe the odd forum in which I am interested somewhere in the middle.

Perhaps you could "favourite" certain forums, and then you could have a "New Favourite Posts" link.

There is a way of viewing messages on Mobile but you have to send a message then it takes you to inbox? That's how I did it then made a home screen icon of the messages part

Don't need to if you have apple product just press the button down the bottom and add to home screen.  I have a folder with cityrail Sydney suburban, NSW Forum, Melbourne suburban, general and some of my fav threads

Hate clutter... I will not have unnecessary crap on my home screen.

Besides, How hard can it be to type into the code:

  • Private Messages

  • To type this reply, it took me ~ a minute.

I would hope that would become optional - too many people see my mug on a daily basis as it is, I wouldn't want to subject the users of this site to it as well!

Not to start an argument, But I dont see how that would work.

The Chatrooms have been missing for (how) long?

I doubt people would use them

QRIG had a chatroom that was always extremely well patronised, now about two people use it regularly and have little to say to each other..

On the other hand, the Shoutbox of SgForums.com has been a very successful chatroom.

I wouldn't mind a Railpage Australia IRC, but is it worth it?

I'm a member of an anime forum which has a spam section, called Spam Goes Here. It's a board for us to create the most silly threads, particularly involving forum games. By far the most successful one has been the counting thread - it's at 74,678 posts (4979 pages) as I type, and it's been running since 31 July 2009.

The Lounge, AIUI, is just a general board, not a spam/chat board. Would a spam/chat/random section be a viable alternative to a dedicated chatroom or IRC channel?

Could the Friend or Foe feature of PHPBB2 be implemented?

It would highlight posts I may wish to read and ignore posts by those on my "foe" list. This would save a lot of time and allow me to customise my RP experience.

Its not so much that some people are foes or unwanted, its just that their posts are of little interest to me.

    Thanks,
