Hear, hear. My old man was the same, used to go in and get his name crossed off and then screw up his ballot paper and throw it in the bin, usually in front of the electorate staff (who would get suitably horrified at the sight of someone throwing away their vote). He lived in one of the safest National Party seats in the nation anyway so it really didn't make any difference.
They're all hanging out for two terms so they can get the six-figure superannuation generously provided by the Future Fund - stuff the rest of us.

I thought Abbott was beaten last night by #krudd. Abbott is so negative about issues. Listening to Rudd it felt like the economy had been well managed by the ALP. The Sydney airport question was embarrassing coming from a panel journalist who should be focused on more national issues.

I didn't bother watching 'The big Debate' last night. It's bad enough seeing that big smirk on KRudds face on his (and the taxpayers) ads without having to listen to him waffle for an hour and a half. Sitting outside watching the grass grow was a more sustaining endevour!

According to the AEC, Australians living Overseas can apply for a postal vote - he doesn't need to take a trip to the Australian High Commission in London, and the Brits wont let him get that far in any case.
In the unlikely event of his gaining a Senate seat, actually taking that seat would be a tad problematic, for the same reasons given above - the Brits will grab him if he sets foot outside the Ecuador embassy.

And if he happens to win a seat in the Senate, escapes Britain in a diplomatic bag, we have an agreement with Britain to arrest him and send him back the day he steps foot in the Parliament. I can see that working for him!

Err if he does win that seat in the Senate he can leave then using his diplomatic immunity that would ensure a safe exit from Britain. He would not be the first to use this kind of thing though. Probably what he is trying for, but I would not hold my breath Mr Assange!

I am fairly certain we'll get a rise in the GST regardless of who wins; our GST is one of the lower rates among developed countries so it's natural that it would be considered for a hike. My bet is 15% or possibly more; I don't think any of the states will be arguing with that considering how broke they all are. Tony was in Tassie today hinting that the states need extra help from the Commonwealth so it's a natural that this tax supposedly implemented for the benefit of the states will rise.

The elephant in the room is falling revenue.
The tax cuts during the Halcion days leading up to the GFC are an ongoing drag. Anyone who had an extended pay freeze or cut knows that you don't get back to where you otherwise would have been.
What's bad for many and doesn't bother others is it's a regressive tax. And the black economy is alive and well. And that's why it probably will be increased
