Has anyone any experiences with travelling to/staying in Bowral, NSW? I am still trying to decide whether to attend this event:

PS I'm starting off from Townsville.

No idea, practically, hopefully a local can answer.

I'd tryTrivago, booking.com etc to look for accomadation, and goodlmaps t look for location around the area. That's what I do these days.

Hope you get here....

One thing to remember is that the convention venue is not within (sensible) walking distance of Bowral itself.  I can highly recommend the convention - it's a fabulous couple of days with perhaps 150 like-minded people - but I am staying in Mass Vale and will drive (or maybe my wife might drive me) to the school.

A Narrow Gauge Convention is always a good weekend...but I might be a bit biased Smile

I will also be attending and driving up from Geelong.  There are a number of B&B options around the general area, but nothing really within an easy walk to the venue.  I will be camping at the nearby Moss Vale caravan park as a budget option (about 10km from the venue as a short drive).  There are similar style accommodation in nearby Burradoo.  Mittagong is also reasonably close by for other options.  Which ever direction you head either side of the venue, there will be a mixture of suitable options within a 15km radius of the convention.

Hope you can make it down, as there is normally plenty to see, hear, learn and buy.

Cheers,

Might also suggest you join onto the ausnarrowgauge yahoo group (if you aren't already a group member).  You are more likely to find more assistance amongst that community than within these pages.

Will there be taxis?

Google suggests there are taxis in Bowral, but no idea whether they will be anywhere to be seen when you might need one.  Have you arranged your accommodation yet?  If you can make contact with other people attending the convention you should be able to arrange a lift. As Dan has pointed out, the best place to make contact is the ausnarrowgauge yahoo group.

No, I've not. I should most likely make a decision by the weekend. In case I can't get anything, does anyone know whether the tickets are refundable?

No idea, but the early bird registration rates expire tomorrow.  You could always ask yourself - contact details are on their web site:
