Today I got a phone call from Trainorama / bob hobbies about the 830 's .Yep, I have one coming but no phone call yet....don't really expect a call because I sorted all that stuff out when the two 48s were dispatched a month or so ago.

To get good sound you need to have a sealed speaker enclosure, not holes. Seal the speaker and don't be that guy who has his sound fitted locos blaring....That's not quite correct
Having those grilles add depth to the model rather than the plastic from the Auscision 45 or the Powerline 48. Give me the TrainOrama grilles anyday. Also good for those like me with sound decoders as it allows for the sound to come out and heat dissipation. If I go to AMRA on a Saturday for the day running I can have it go all day full blast on sound.Get some black shrink tubing and shrink it over the LED Much easier and avoids accidents
The window frames are actually there but not painted. It's actually a really thin window frame which probably could not have been painted well , and in which case could have been overscale to have the representation there.
What a magnificent set of pictures!Well said Rod.... I couldn't agree more!!!
With all the whingers writing cheap words and talking about "half empty buckets" along comes Doug Rowe (Thanks Colin) and we get pictures of these great little engines. Well done they are really great pictures of a great little model.
Only one thing better than a "half full bucket" Its a full bucket obviouslyand here it is.

After seeing the diagram I think the Trainorama model is not angled enough. Using the measurement of 6"3/8, which is kind of an average point on the nose drawing - this scales out to about 1.86mm. When holding a rule across the front of the Traino 48 there is no way there is 1.86mm gap anywhere along the nose. In my opinion the Bergs model and early Powerline models are more correct. They look closer to the drawing and the 1.86mm gap looks very close, well as close as I can measure anyway.I am sorry to bring this topic up again, however today I measured the front nose angle of a prototype 48 class locomotive.
There you go! It looks like Austin's dad is probably right.

Well in fairness, "all major dimensions" would be length, width, height... In this instance the shape of the short hood would hardly count as a major dimension...The reviewer still didn't pick up the problem regardless of it being a major dimension or not and the reviewer did go on to state in a following paragraph 'as noted above, the dimensions of the model are generally correct, although the fuel tank is a little narrow' but still no mention of the problem with the shape of the short hood.
Well good to have some qualitative data to go by. Based on Linton's guesstimates, I went back to Allan Brown's line diagram with measurements and did some of my own math.I would not say so much a guesstimate. The tape measure is pretty accurate, up to the bloke using it I guess ha.
Using a little trig... the angle is 11.89degrees. The deflection from straight is 7.625" or 2.22mm in HO scale. So time to do a little measuring.
I got my Traino 830 onto the work bench. Now I am assuming that the nose of the 830 is the same as the 48. So.... to measure that distance... I used a straight edge to define the vertical. The problem is, that it is a bit hard to measure accurately without removing handrails, and I wasn't doing that! BUT there is really nice detail on the footplate that assists measuring. The answer.... 1.5mm +/- whatever my measurement error might be!
Hmmmmm.....
So out to the shed and get my Powerline 830 (really a 48!) out to measure it. Also difficult to measure accurately, but sadly NO detail on the footplate. That said, the result, 2.0mm! (+/- measurement error)
So, the nose angle is half a millimetre out...
SO... maybe the nose shape is out by 0.7mm, but the two are chalk and cheese. The Traino loco is streets ahead in detail all over the place.
That said, I have a Powerline 830(48) That I will happily SWAP with someone's unloved Traino 48 or 830... Just send me a message to coordinate!
