    Your call to Yahoo Web Services failed and returned an HTTP status of 400. That means: Bad request. The parameters passed to the service did not match as expected.     It sounds like your "last visit" date is not updating when you log out. Check it and see (hover the mouse over your username on the menu bar). It happens to me a lot.

    Thanks Graham4405 - I did just that and reset the time to January 30 at 19:30, then logged out, then deleted browsing history and cookies, closed the browser and rebooted the PC.

    All now is up to date - too well so in fact as looking for the new posts resulted in the following - which I guess translates to "NONE".

    I will see how it goes after the next few days - and yes, it doesn't seem to be updating when one  departs - it is about one visit behind.


    Edit - yes, the error message does seem to be the response when there are no new posts - after posting the above I had another look, and just one shows - this one.

    My "last visit" date and time is not updating again. I have visited at least 3 times since then (including this visit), I always log out. I have cleared my cookies prior to this visit.

    Currently showing "Your last visit was on 20 Jan 2015 21:09."

    So, here's the situation.

    Every time you load a page on Railpage it updates the user_session_time column for that user.

    When you log in the codebase fetches the timestamp stored in the user_session_time column and stores it in the user_lastvisit column, before updating user_session_time to the current timestamp.

    New forum post searches and the "Last visit" date are based on the value stored in user_lastvisit.

    In an effort to reduce database queries Memcached has been used extensively on this site. Unfortunately I'd neglected to update the stored Memcached value when user_session_time and user_lastvisit were updated. This has now been implemented on the development server and will be monitored.

    Had a bug where it logged me out with this error

    'Your Account was disabled due to excessive attempts'
    i changed the password and about a minute later i got the same now it is back.
    Anyone know why i got this?

    I think the bug is in that the original user isn't attempting to log into their account repeatedly - they've logged in once and gotten kicked out with that message. If I'm reading it correctly.

    Interesting. Can you confirm for me how long your Railpage session lasts for before it logs you out?

    It's hard to say, because you do not know it's happened until you try to post and get the message - it could have happened a minute ago, or ten minutes ago.  This morning, I logged in at 7.27 and went to the Melb Suburban Cryptic thread, then I spent some time trying to solve the clue.  When I came up with a solution and tried to submit it, I was no longer logged in.  Evidently my period of "inactivity" was a bit less than 46 minutes, because my login history says I logged in at 7.27 and again at 8.13.  My post was submitted at 8.14.

    I guess it would be helpful if the login history also showed logout times - both user instigated and system default?

    Handy, but not practical. In most cases a logoff is triggered not by some server or user action (which would be trivial to capture), but simply by the expiration of a valid session token. That (theoretically) happens 24 minutes after your last page generation.

    The only way to accomplish what you're asking is for us to track user -> page generations and assume that your logoff was last page gen + 24 minutes, which has another bunch of associated problems.

    I have some more code in testing at the moment which does away with PHP's silly session expiration system and instead adopts a common approach to session cleanup, and also extends the expiration to one hour.

    Is it just me, or is Quick Reply broken or timing out after a while? It usually happens after I have left text sitting for a while, then it produces a "phantom" error after I hit Submit/Preview.

    Yeah, no. Do not add reminders or bug fixes in there. That's the whole point of this thread.

    I've deleted your idea. Between checking our internal bug tracker, the developers forum and this thread I have enough places to look for bug reports without looking in a place specifically designed not for bug reports.

    My point is I already have three different places where bugs are reported. The Ideas module is not and will not become a fourth place.

    I made some changes to our production server yesterday, which hopefully will improve the speed and availability of the site. Could people please indicate if the outage pages have reduced in frequency?
