About time!! Digusting to have no service for 7 months. I understand there are problems on the line- but really needs electrification to Baxter now. Double track to proabably at least Somerville required. Even if as others have said run every second train there so 20 minute frequency and electrification to Somerville during day and every 60 to 90 minutes to Hastings. Off peak late at night every second train so an hourly service to Somerville! Better than current situation and would reduce parking crowding at Frankston, improve transport significantly for Peninsula. We also need electrification to Mornington, every Frankston train should go on to Mornington too. Such a growth area around Mornington East and would help tourism and jobs, economy.

Why just to Baxter? Why doi a half job again in this state. get the electrification completed to Stony Point and examine Mornington as an option. What is probably required more than mornington is an extension again to Red Hill or crossing down the Penninsula to the middle so the Port Philip based suburbs have a service.
Looking at this am I the only person on here who thinks public transport on the penninsula is poor? Why would yo live there and try and work in the city? A fast train service from the Penninsula is required. Should have already been started.

Metro need to get their act together and get Frankston - Stony point running reliably .How does metro get their act together when its not their train? metro and the government have had to fork out a few million to fix problems that have been caused by trains that are maintained by v/line !

Yes, Sprinters are back on the Stony Point service since 30 June after “installation of improved train detection systems at 19 level crossings” (PTV 30.6.15).
Perhaps someone familiar with the operation of the line can answer some questions I have regarding the Mondays to Fridays timetable:
1. Two trains start from Stony Point (5.41 and 6.18) before the first public service from Frankston arrives there (7.42). Does that mean that two coupled Sprinters run empty cars from Frankston to Stony Point prior to 5.41 and separate there to form the 5.41 and 6.18 services? If so, do the two drivers travel down together on that empty cars run?
2. Later in the morning there is a service that starts from Stony Point at 11.44 without a corresponding arrival from Frankston. Does that mean that the previous service departing Frankston 10.15 and arriving Stony Point 10.51 is two cars, with one car departing Stony Point at 11.04 and the other forming that 11.44 service? If so, does the 11.44 driver travel down on the 10.15 from Frankston?
3. In the evening a train arrives at Stony Point at 18.33 but there is no balancing return service to Frankston before the next train from Frankston arrives at 19.11. Does the 18.33 arrival couple to the 19.11 arrival to form the 19.26 departure to return to Frankston?
Saturday and Sunday timetables appear to be simple Frankston-Stony Point-Frankston return runs.

I'm puzzled why, if empty cars are being run from Frankston to Stony Point, they are not run as public services. Perhaps the saving in time by not stopping at stations gives some advantage.

Come on, they need to remove the splinter, for gods sake they are forking millons for that. electrification will help stop the problem with it, electrify to baxter, hastings or crib point, than close the rest of the line beyond it so they dont have to keep the splinter.

Due to a faulty axle counter the stony point line is closed.The axle counters weren't faulty there was a power supply problem, and they don't close the line they suspend it.
