RP 3.10 Bugs and Feedback

  a6et Minister for Railways

Hi All,

We are well aware of the issues and a lot of work to clean this up has already been completed.  We are struggling to find the code the devs MGH and co. wrote which has this silly outage message as the servers are not overloaded.  They have been optimised.

It is frustrating for all.  The new devs have had to take this over and clean up.

Once this is completed including fixing the caching and other issues we will then check all code into the new repo and the second tier devs will be able to then take over and complete code re-write railcams as this code has issues and flickr firewalled us off because of the way we do things.

We will get there.  We have the horsepower it is more a case of understand how it is all written now and what needs to change.  We will be  much better for it.

to enter the site and login it is better to just use http://www.railpage.com.au/f.htm

Regards
Brian

Brian,

Thanks for reply, at least with that link we can get to the forums page, but getting to the main home page where the general overall news is found is the problem.

Could those articles that usually are on the front page, be put into a news page, and accessed through there?

Hope all comes good soon.

There is no doubt with Michael not having the time we needed to make some changes and we have.  If you required news then simply http://www.railpage.com.au/news

We will come through this together and the site will be much faster and better.  I have already engaged devs who will take up all the feature requests once the basic stuff is sorted.

The logging in bug hit again today I logged in no problems at all first up but when I went to a thread and checked it out when I go back to the forums main list it logged me out for some reason logging in again fixed it, and so far I have been able to read several threads on here without any problem at all.

Well done with the recent fixes and as others have noted the site is lightning fast. However an "old" caching issue seems to have returned during the recent turmoil. This manifests itself thus: After reading (or marking read) all threads in a particular forum, returning to the forums page, that forum appears to have unread threads. Also when posting to a thread that post does not appear as the latest post in the forum. All of this can be "fixed" by pressing F5, but is somewhat annoying.

When next this happens please hit F5 to reload the page and tell me if it is still happening. Thanks.

Yes, still happens on the next instance following F5.

Another question, are all unresolved bugs part of the current project? Do they need to be re-reported?

Enjoying using the site once again but call out an issue with the front page. Same photos seem stuck on the front page no changes.

The photos are not changing yes I can also see this.

The site itself is really running well.

Has there been an RP update? All of the text on the forum pages is now in a fine font, the index pages being pale blue on alternating bands of white and paler blue. Or perhaps this might have been caused by a Windows 10 update which occurred today?

This modern idea of displaying text in pale colours with little contrast is a bugger as people age, and have difficulty reading things unless there's a decent amount of contrast. But the bright young developers wouldn't even know that...

There have been no updates at all to text or any kind.  Not in scope for changes.  Can you post a screenie?

It's a subtle change to the font, but they are finer and therefore less clear to read, especially when on a similar coloured background. The font for each post has also changed to be the same, but is black.

I note that your post Bevan has a different font. Yours has this at the start: font=Roboto, wf_SegoeUI  My posts, and others, do not specify the font, so it's the default forum font which has changed.

Here's what the font looks like within a thread. Once again it's subtle, but different.

A further update. Another forum I just looked at also has this new, fine font. So it was a result of the Windows 10 update, not RP. Sorry to jump the gun without checking that first.

I've been experiencing the following problem for some time now and I am hoping someone can help. The problem is that pictures in posts don't display on my pc. all I get is a black rectangle with three tiny white rectangles sequentially flashing in the middle.
Now' it is true that my computer is not the "latest or greatest". It is a Dell desktop running XP SP3, but as a retired person on limited income, buying a new one is not on the radar. The thing is that this problem seems to be only occurring on Railpage. For instance, I have a love of snow skiing and the Ski.com site displays pictures in posts perfectly well and other sites that have pictures are fine.
So what's going on? If my system is just too old, is it possible to include a clickable link in the post so I can still view the pic?
Thanks for any help. Very Happy

I sometimes see the same, but pushing the F5 key will usually clear it up and the pictures will then display correctly.

Hm. Cert isn't due to expire until Nov 30th.

It is not saying 'expired', but a warning that it is not secure. Edge browser, no warning on Android.
