Glad to see this type of vehicle around the place as a driver from SCT was telling me recently that due to the high rates of vegetation growth and regrowth visibility across the Adelaide Hills can be quite challenging in sighting signals and speedboards, level crossings etc.

2202 is an Aurizon owned loco still in ARG livery. It was stabled at Port Flat yard on Sunday and was on 7PM1 last night, so I'd say it was working as a banker to Tailem Bend on 7PM1 and returned on 2MP1 today

Looks like there are now operators using bankers in the hills Aurizon and PN. Good info pressman.

Has there been an increase in loading across the hills ? I checked the Gheringhap site but not being updated at present.

SCT are also using bankers in the Adelaide Hills.

Now this is not something you see every day.

Bankers have in use in the Hills by all operators throughout the diesel era as and when required.

This is nothing new. Period.

6026-6002-6022 hauling 1PM1 Aurizon Superfreighter to Melbourne, ex Perth are giving a much needed push of assistance to 1PM9 through Mt Lofty station as far as Ambleside(Balhannah) before the trains separated, Tuesday 21/9/2016.

Earlier 1PM9 had experienced troubles and finally stalling in Upper Sturt tunnel. It took around 4 hours for 1PM9 to make it to Mt Lofty station from Mile End.

Interesting movement would have thought PN would have more locos available for banking.

Is there a video available showing train via the station ?

It's a bit hard for PN to get bankers behind their train when an Aurizon freighter is following the PN one up the hill.

The only way the Aurizon can get through is push the PN up the hill.   Works for both?

1PM9 is an SCT service so any reference to PN in this case is irrelevant.

Operators will work out what tonnage their train is and what horsepower they need to get it over the Hills. From time to time they get it wrong, or a number of unforeseen factors might kick in once the train is underway. SCT have been known to push things beyond the limit on occasion.

Hearing 2PM1 may have a bulldog or two attached en route for Melbourne.  Should be through Mount Lofty later this evening.

No Bulldogs on 2PM1. Instead, CLP16-GM43 ran light to Spencer Junction to be attached to PG1.

Traction motor problems.

5PM5 hit a tree near balhannah in the Adelaide Hills preventing it from continuing.  The driver was struck by a second tree when clearing the first.  This caused delays across the Adelaide Hills with many of the freights now working into Melbourne and Adelaide.

NR35 apparently failed and 9301 was sent to Belair to rescue (documented in photographs by Mike Kent on the SA Railway Enthusiasts FB group)

Grain running again today 1281S east of Adelaide having already been over the hills.  Grain seems to be running quite regularly over the past week.

3MP1 appears to have left 6028 east of the hills with 6024 now leading having been stopped for quite some time on the down side of the hills near harrogate.
