Centenary of the Opening of the Trans Australian Railway - Port Augusta

    HI Everyone, just a few bits and pieces.

    Mamma Lou's are open for breakfast Sunday morning for anyone interested. The Rotary Club will have a "late breakfast" ...as well.

    There will be parking availalbe at the high school oval (opposite the railway station) on the day. If you feel a little more energetic you can park in the CBD and walk down to the station. Just be patient as it could be very busy. Also there is a drop off point at the station archway for those with mobility issues.

    Lastly please remember that this is a working railway so please take extra care on the paltform and in the vicinity of the railway station building and carpark. The Vintage cars are also in the cutting carpark so be careful with passing traffic if you go and view them.

    Morning all. Have just woken up to a nice sultry morning in Port Augusta. Just attending to breakfast and will be heading down to the station in the next hour. Last night rode the PRR to wool shed flat for a dinner under the stairs. Seperate trip report to be provided.

    I recorded the entire ceremony in 2012 and will look to do the same today when the formal part of the day starts. Will try and get this onto Railpage today. Reflecting talking with Fischer and albanese on that day I asked them do you think we will ever see a project of a similar size in rail again in this country. Neither were convinced. History I believe will show inland rail to,be the next one.

    It is the perfect day.

    Great day yesterday in Port Augusta with plenty of people in attendance.

    Thanks to everyone to attended and to all those who have followed this thread over the past 6 months.

    I will leave a summary of the day to Bevans as I may be a bit too parochial !

    When's the next big milestone???!!!

    The train now departing for Stirling North with a healthy number of people.  I actually took the first shuttle around 11.30am.

    Having just seen the old now we see the new as NR111 leads 6PM7 off the TAR and into Port Augusta on the way to Melbourne.

    Travelling back to Adelaide for the evening 5455S was approaching Crystal Brook so decided to wait for the train.

    it was fantastic to see 141 in steam for I was told the first time since 1968.

    It is a ex SAR locomotive Bevans although it may have run on CR controlled track at some stage though but this loco started it's life with the SAR and ended it's life with SAR and was never sold by them.
