Bit strange that they decided to drag a 'dead horse' (G523) all the way to Mildura and back. Probably nowhere to park it after it failed I guess.

I suspect that the Ararat Triangle (when it becomes operational) will be a bit too far for you to travel Greensleeves?

Donald has 3 tracks in the yard.   Could have left it there.
Or any passing loop - there being no other trains on the line!

Given the train was already late why spend more time cutting it out?

It had to stop in Donald anyway.

There is the S word to consider too - Security - have to park it somewhere where it can reasonably be considered to be still intact and have no extra paintwork when you come back to collect it.

Good size trains by the looks of it, I thought I read that they would be shorties due to crossing loop length restrictions.

What was the wait time for the first train before the second arrived?  Based on the evening lighting it doesnt look too late?

The Up departure I could not see any signalling which may mean there is still work to complete at Maryborough?

Good info Donald, wonder what the occasion is ? Some of the track got some issue's or dare I say it, just Maintenance..........Razz although after nearly 18 months of use a bit of a spruce up wouldn't go astray, I'd say.

I meant to come back to this thread.

Just counted the Melbourne bound train
- Tanktainer - 8
- Small containers (TEU?) - 14
- Large containers (FEU?) - 26

That would vive a length around 500m of train.  Not overly long....

A question

from where do the tanktakiners originate for the down service?

Yesterday the UP Mildura was held at Gheringhap to attach/detach wagons captured by the railcams at the location.  @Bonzel do you know what was going and why the changes at Gheringhap?

James the loading count for the train in TEU was above 70 for the UP service.

Isn't that what he said? 26 forty-foot containers (52 TEU), 14 twenty-foot, 8 tanktainer, for a grand total of 74. That's 1480ft of container or 451m. Plus locos, actual wagon lengths and so on gives us 500, maybe 550m.
