Well, after yesterday's train trundling along a re-vamped, track and arriving at Merbein, I reckon that is a Momentous day, for the pages of the Victorian Rail History.
The last major rail renaissance, would have been, the RFR, 15ish years, ago.
How many decades/more than century, has the broad gauge issue been, debated about and how could it be fixed and at last a government has taken some responsibility and solved the problem.
The train may have only traveled at a speed, some of could match, with our 10 speed Malvern Star, in six months time, with any luck, trains will be barreling along at 80 kph.
Hopefully, this project will turn the corner for rail freight in regional Victoria and we see an increase in rail traffic, with more competitors in the market, an increase in axle loading at decent line speed.
I'm still partially stunned, that they have virtually rebuilt the line, between Ararat and Maryborough and showing that there is still some will, in government departments to revive, rail infrastructure in regional Victoria.
Well done, to the Andrews government, Liberal party, wake up, look at what can be done, if ya get ya hands out of your pockets or off your hips and use, them !
