Is there not some bloke with half the Hitachi fleet on his farm in NSW? Who we had to buy at great expense a few sets off when we decided to keep the Hitachis running?

What is the actual reason for scrapping?
What point would there be in keeping them? They're not used and all they do is occupy space. Pesumably there's a few quid to be made from Simsmetal.

Could say the same thing about the steam locos at Ballarat East, the V/Line A classes and stored Ps.

Indeed you could say so. We have enough representatives of the steam classes, and there has to be a limit as to how many can be successfully restored, maintained and operated. Then keep one of the A's and one of the P's for historical purposes.
