Weird name the Government has come out of nowhere with.

Up till now it was known as a new station announced for Toolern between Rockbank and Melton .

Ours not to reason why ???     Funny Government holds naming competitions for tunnel boring machines  (NB: MUST be female names !!!)  , but unilaterally comes up with names like Southern Cross and Cobblebank .

Gman_86 has posted on the 'Ballarat Lines upgrades underway' thread the origin of this suburb's name which apparently happened a number of years ago. Doesn't mean that anyone likes it but it apparently has been around for a while.

All I'll say is that they seem to have ''cobbled' together a couple of words and boom -"Cobblebank" it is.

There is a locality not too far from Toolern known as "Cobbledick`s Ford . It is located on the Werribee River I think ..  Is this anything to do with it .?
I do suspect that a station named Cobbledick would not "Get Up "so to speak .

maybe its because its rockbanks smaller cousin.

Will the new station have one platform or two, and if the latter, an island platform or two side platforms?

Look in the other thread, please. It’s all there.

Track duplication is going right to Melton for now so I guess that would

I guess that it will be called Cobblers by most.

Or in the cryptic sense, "A Load Of".

So there's a change we could get a station called Plumpton near Calder Raceway (or is that not PC)?
And Caroline Springs really ought to be Ravenhall. I reckon we could get a lot more of Middle Earth into Victoria if they tried, since we have  Middle Gorge already in existence. We could out do the Kiwis!

Makes you wonder why it's not just called Ferris.
There's plenty of precedent for naming a station after the nearest road.

The obvious name choice for a station located between Rockbank and Melton would appear to be Rock Melon ! Laughing

The track duplication actually continues right through Melton and half way down the hill to the Weir. The new mainline points are already installed .

Construction of the new station has certainly begun.
Some of the up platform face has been installed and so has part of the overpass on the northern side.
There's not much to see on the other side.
Perhaps the best news of all is that they've removed the sharply curved track and sleepers at Troups Road in Rockbank.

Name has been around for some time - some posters need to do more research.

It's named Cobblebank, because it's in a suburb named Cobblebank, which was created sometime last year, so the station name makes sense, no different then alot of other stations.
Now the suburbs name? I don't know, but I do feel like it's purely an estate name turned suburb,  such as Botanic Ridge and Weir Views.

The main reason people are a bit confused is that the first time the new station name was mentioned was in the press release by the title of this thread. Up until this point the new station had been referred to as Toolern, and the press release doesn’t make it clear that they’ve chosen a new name, just tries to do a “we’ve always been at war with Eastasia”.

In any case, like so many things, it was posted and discussed in the Ballarat line thread, and then someone decided to ignore that and make a new thread anyway.
