NSW election thread 2019

According to Media Watch, ABC tv on Monday nights in the town of Menindee near the drained lakes and the millions of dead fish along the Darling River, out of the population of 400 voters apparently 7, yes SEVEN votes were cast for the Nationals in the once very safe nationals seat, now held by the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers party.

Mike.

That seems to validate the election numbers in the area. Is there something you are trying to say?

No need for me to say anything more...and the constituents have said plenty.

Those constituents might make up a massive land area but a very small population area and there problems are different to the rest of NSW. I have sympathy for the people out that way and the drought but on the other side of the divide there are completely different issues that the shooters and farmers party will never win over.

Well it has taken a while but finally someone from Labor has told it like it is, even if it is through gritted teeth.

"Anecdotally, I never felt Labor and Michael Daley had much of a chance. The biggest single problem facing Labor, Premier Gladys Berejiklian, has run a pretty good government. She and her more-than-capable Treasurer, Dominic Perrottet, have been able to produce surpluses while still pouring heaps of dollars into some big infrastructure programs which will serve the state well into the future."

High praise indeed from Graham "whatever it takes (to remain in power)" Richardson.

NSW  dodged a bullet from Labor in this election.  Michael Daley is a walking disaster area.

Richo is pretty straight up and will acknowledge weaknesses of the ALP and preach its strengths and over time I think Richo has also become more conservative in his thinking but not enough to jump sides.

Unless he actually claims to be "working class" (whatever that may mean these days), I don't see how you can criticise him.

Anyone claiming to be representing "the working class man" for me is setting off alarm bells.

All too often they end up being millionaires or worse if they get to the top and for the most part I think they are wannabee's who cannot achieve in the Right side of politics and hence play on the working class minds offering a working Utopia.

To put it mildly, the voters in Barwon and Macquarie have been conned. The Shooters and wankers party is nothing but a white supremacist group in disguise. They can offer nothing to these electorates except going around shooting off their pop guns or whatever they do to amuse themselves. The trouble is with these 2 electorates are the income disparity with a few wealthy farmers, some professional types in some of the towns and rest being dirt kickers who want to blame everyone else except themselves for their bad financial conditions. This Shooter and Fishers came along with a hate everyone that has placed you in this position philosophy and the mugs fall for it hook, line and sinker. It scares me because it has all the elements of pre-nazi Germany. These nasty ratbags know what they are doing and its undemocratic.

I don't think they've been conned so much as just thoroughly p1ssed off with the Nats, and don't want Labor.

Much agreed Valvegear. Look how hard the federal ALP is working to get votes in the seat of Parkes next election, promising to overturn the very flawed Murray Darling basin catastrophe of a plan.

The locals wanted to he heard in the state election and there was only one party listening. State Labour made some overtures, but the locals saw it a a vote grab. Both Labor and the coalition have failed the bush and this is the result. Both SFF MPs ran flawless campaigns.

If Orange can stick with its SFF candidate this state election, surrounding Federal and State electorates could give their SFF candidates votes the next time around.
  simstrain Chief Commissioner

It is clearly a protest vote since neither major party seems to be listening to them. In the end however it will just isolate them more as less and less is done for an area that is no longer voting for either major party.
