    if you consider the cost of this issue and the delays to trains and other travelling public trams and vehicles it must be in the millions for this incident alone?

    I suspect whoever employs* these guys doesn't want to have to pay for someone who actually knows how to drive safely and professionally. I wonder if there's legal recourse to their employers?

    This does need to be a real option considering the amount of times this happens.  The company must also take some responsibility for driver training.  The other comment above worth considering is why do we need these larger trucks in the CBD.  London has banned them.  You don't see them in Sydney.

    We do see them in Sydney. But rail is underground, so they don’t create this problem in CBD.

    And they regularly hit the tunnel roof in harbour and M5 tunnels, even with fines of several thousands of dollars. Agree lifetime suspension should apply.

    These days it should be the entirety of Melway map 43 (CityLink/West Gate/ports excluded). The CBD meaning just the Hoddle Grid (Spencer/Flinders/Spring/La Trobe) is no longer enough as the city has grown exponentially in the last 120 years. Victoria St is equally ridiculous with heavy trucks (as in Kenworth rather than Hino), all of them turning at Burnley St to and from the eastern part of CityLink. It's probably a wonder that trucks don't smash into the bridge at North Richmond, although they do occasionally take out the tram overhead leaving the 109 completely stuffed.

    I wonder if the guy driving this truck was toll skipping. Maybe it is time to bring in some heavy vehicle charging in to the cities. I know that is something being talked about in Sydney.

    It's a regular occurrence in Sydney, Galston Gorge being another, vehicle length is limited.

    Did you all not notice that the truck was for delivery of giant concrete and glass panels?
    Just like all the sky scappers IN THE CBD are built with. How else do you all suggest stuff gets delivered.

    I still have no idea why any heavy vehicle driver would take Galston Gorge. It's steep, narrow and cars can barely get around those hairpins let alone a truck of any sort. For those of you from out of town who do not know this road you can think of it as a mini stelvio pass. There are 6 nearly 180 degree hairpin turns on the side of a Gorge.

    Mostly I would not call these incidents äccidents ", they are more due to negligence not a happening of chance .

    There is barely a slap on the wrist and for the driver NO demerit points are taken.

    The way to fix is to ban that route completely for trucks regardless of size.
