I observed was that temperary fencing that was erected along the alignment,on both sides across the paddocks ,down the river bank ,through the water across the river,up the river bank. Through the RIVER !!!!!. This is another classic case of Occupation Health and safety being prescribed by "Professionals"who just don't think.Yes people have to be kept off the work site ,but the first drop of rain ,you can pick up the fence in Bass Strait!

It appears that "somebody " high up in Projects Victoria must of read this RP post as and many thanks to the other posts for the out pouring of disbelief concerning the placment of the temporary fence. There are now 3 access points or breaks in the fence ,one for the river to flow though, one for people to walk though and one for vehicles to drive through . Our readers may not know but the Avon River when it isnt flooding in about 5 metres wide whilst rest of the dry river bed s about 80 metres wide (just a guess) so the local walk and drive up and down the river daily . Compaction is tracking place new concrecte sleeper have arrived with lots of barral pipes for drainage . Construction is onwhere near the river ,but the worker have to follow the Safe work Method Statement. OHS WHOO ROOO. . . . Hey David,Hey Thanks Ross for your in depth question about the Avon River at the town of Stratford. Thanks for asking Ross I am fine and the bushfires come within 10 kilometres from home we were lucky unlike so many other who lost their lives and property . As I dont drive any more and the bus service has been cancelled till further notice and the train service between Bairnsdale and Melbourne is cancelled and replaced by a bus for the month of January the answer is I dont know!!!, so back to the fence ,I should say that your $95 million dollar investment is safe(the bridge project) but I recken the your fence is now reached King Island .Stay tuned for further updates when the Train is running again.
How did your 3 gaps in the fence hold up after the rain we had in Stratford over these last couple of days?
Reports on the BOM website say that there was 109mm of rainfall in the 24 hours to 9am 21 January.
Also there's a piece on the ABC website that talks about trees and debris being washed down the river.

Thanks for your concern Rossco , there are people who have lost every thing ,most homes along the Princess Hwy in Sarsfield were lost , fire doesnt do what its suppost to do , it does what it likes. I always LOL when a expert pops up on the TV and states " our computer modelling tells us that the fire will do this ETC ..."Well Its a pity fires dont follow the program..Getting back to more happier subjects the road is open on monday which mean the bus will be running so I can make the trip into Bairnsdale but the train isnt running till 30th of January. I have my 2nd class ticket and I dont need a reservation on the Velocipede railcarHey Thanks Ross for your in depth question about the Avon River at the town of Stratford. Must have been incredibly scary having the bushfires so close!
Look forward to more updates when the train is back!

I’m truly bewildered by what you consider to be “much happening” if driving piles for the new bridge doesn’t count.Maybe @bevans thinks they should tamp & grind first then drop ballast followed by laying rail then setting out sleepers then putting in the bridge decks closely followed by pouring the concrete support pylons and THEN drive the piles! Phew, need a lie down after that.......
They don’t look like piles but I guess they could be.Cant recall exactly, but a quick google suggests at least 2 years ago. Was one of the last things local member Darren Chester got done as transport minister before there was a movement of the deck chairs in Canberra.
How long ago was the bridge announced ?
I have some sad news to report . I have just traveled over the Avon River Bridge by rail and only one fence can be observed. It was lying in the river pulled over by the rush of water . The other two fences that were across the river were last scene off the coast of King Island .It appears that "somebody " high up in Projects Victoria must of read this RP post as and many thanks to the other posts for the out pouring of disbelief concerning the placment of the temporary fence. On behalf of David Harvey, some pictures of the remains of the fence at the Avon River; those parts that didn't end up in Bass StraitThanks Neil,I cant fathom that computer stuff. If you where part of Thomas the Tank Engines Crew I'd have to say "You're a really useful engine"
