Transportation expert Richard Tubb explains why Burnie-Wynyard light rail won't happen
Richard Tubb would absolutely love a light rail service connecting Burnie, Wynyard and communities in between.
Not real updated with tasmania but an endeavour set would do the job with passengers wanting to travel. Do railway platforms still existing in tasmanian cities? My Tasmanian rail knowledge is minimal, but I do know that an Endeavour set would need to be regauged to 1067mm! The track having been out of use for some time might need substantial repairs. In 2010 the Burnie platform was still intact, not sure about others.

The line was originally closed as it was being undermined in parts along the beachfront.Several sections of track have been removed In the Burnie urban area West of Burnie Yard, all level crossing protection equipment West of Burnie has been removed.
Now there’s part of the University development in the way I believe along with parts cut closer to Wynyard,
I very much doubt you’ll see rail west of Burnie again, the council was dead set against it.

Your article you have linked plus another directly linked article more or less says It all, the proposal ain't viable and no level of Government would support such a proposal. The line was originally closed as it was being undermined in parts along the beachfront.

What does it really have to do with the council? There is money on offer from the feds for all sorts of transport projects they would be better making an application.

When do passenger services need a business case they are public services delivered by the government for the taxpayer.Always, just because they require a subsidy doesn't mean its a free for all.
