What happened to D2 5017

According to VICSIG, it is "under repairs", however it has kept that status for over 2 years!! The last reference online regarding that unit was a truck crash back in June 2018, but hasn't appeared since. Has it been withdrawn perhaps? Or is it being tested for D2 refurbishing (they are at refurb age)?

Don't know the answer to your original question, but would it mean there are 20 D2 class left at Brunswick?  4 minute peak frequency on route 19 with trip time of 40 minutes, it's going to stretch the D2 class fleet to the limit.  The roster probably already require all 21 D2 class due to recovery time allocated at termini.  Sounds like some more opportunities to see and ride a B class on route 19.

Vicsig can be slow to update, depending on who has taken responsibility for that section/page. Have a look at the V'locity page; it hasn't been updated for nearly two years now and I know there are Vlo's in service that are still listed as under construction and others shown as being in Vline livery which are now in PTV livery. The N class carriages pages has also suffered from a lack of updates for quite a while now. On the other hand the E2 page is quite well maintained but if the same person does the D2 page I don't know.
You might find that 5017 is in service by searching the photos section on Vicsig and/or Marcus Wong's site as two places I know of to look at

Even on wongm's Tram Detective site it states that 5017 hasn't been seen since 5/6/18 (probably the same day it collected the truck). This is actually the same page where I first noticed that 3011 had finally re-entered service last month.

Other trams that have been MIA for over a year are B2s 2055 and 2075.

I wonder why this is? Perhaps they have defects (or crash damage in the case of 5017) that isn't worth repairing (or adding to the refurbishment program) and they are instead supplying parts for other trams (well given the age of all these trams their cousins are bound to need a transplant of working parts from time to time).
I did some research and d1 3528 is also missing, (its listed as 'stored' on vicsig)
