The improvements include duplicating track, extending the Morwell crossing loop, upgrading level crossings and signalling, adding second platforms at three stations along the line and reactivating the second platform at Traralgon.

The second platform at Morwell Station has been redesigned after consultation with Latrobe City Council and the local community to improve connectivity with the bus interchange.

Darren Chester said the works would allow Traralgon trains to travel every 40-minute between the peaks and give passengers a more reliable service.

At this stage yes. Earlier promotional material put out by the government included duplication through Moe, which I would assume included a second platform, but that got quietly removed from the list of upgrades sometime ago. It can be done, but with the Moe library/council service center being built so close opposite the existing platform it would require substantially more work than Longwarry etc.

The existing Moe Railway Station can not be duplicated under the the existing design rules, they would have to relocate the railway station around the corner (towards Trafalgar) so both platforms are straight.

That would be the easiest and cheapest option. A while ago the grapevine suggested they were considering realigning the approach either side of the current location in order to get a sufficient length of straight track. As much as I detest lowering speeds during upgrades, dropping the curve speed through Moe from 90 to something like 60 to achieve this would make no difference to running times for V/Line services as its in the braking zone for Moe anyway. The guys on the Maryvale may not be too pleased about it though.

Good question. As no third rail was installed from Caulfield to Dandenong during the level crossing removal, there will inevitably be limits to how many extra trains can be added here. That was an opportunity squandered.

Yes. My experience of travelling on the Gippsland line certainly has a "commuter" feel about it. I've seen people board at Drouin and get off at Warragul, Yarragon and Trafalgar seem to generate local traffic to either Warragul or Moe/ Morwell. On a mid- afternoon up from Traralgon, the peace and tranquility of a quiet journey was shattered at Trafalgar when the 3 car Vlo. was invaded by hundreds of noisy school students! They progressivly got off at stations right up to Pakenham.

Yes you could probably put on shuttles between Drouin and Traralgon (between existing services) and they would be well used.

Yes It's only Nar Nar Goon and Tynong  that are little non growing hamlets.

Garfield, Bunyip and Longwarry are having new houses popping up like mushrooms.

Warragul/Drouin Is turning Into the business go to hub of Gippsland (what does Traralgon and Sale have to say about this ?)
