What if Tim Fischer become the new Government General of Australia, wouldn't that help railway systems arcross the country to get an extra yet powerful activist? as powerful as a V544!

He is thought to be a leading candidate, but the GG doesn't have that much influence in the process of government.

Presumably he would be the first GG in a long time who may be interested in using all the vice-regal carraiges that are in various museums? Technically (and I would love further information on this) that the GG can at any time request a train to be made up for his travel, co
nsisting of these cars?

Governors General (and state Governors) have an automatic entitlement to free first class rail travel. The various railways build state cars as a matter of prestige for Vice Regal and other state purposes (e.g. Royal visits). In these days of corporatisation and privatisation, a special train could be arranged but somebody would have to pay for it. The GG does have quite a big expense account so it's not impossible. Probably cheaper than using the RAAF VIP jets! If anybody would do something like this, it would be Tim Fischer. Although recent Governors of Victoria have used State Car 5 enough, usually attached to regular trains, to warrant keeping it in service.
There are a number of cars around, which although not all state cars are quite suitable for the purpose.
Vic: State Car 4 (preserved), State Car 5 (still active), Norman has also been used for Vice Regal purposes.
NSW: SG (Governor's car - still trafficable?), PAM11 (Premier's car), AAH9 (Commissioner's car, also sometimes used by the Governor)
GSR has custody of SS44 (Special Service Car No.1 aka the 'Prince of Wales car') and SSAF27 (the original CR Governor General's car, which I think is in Perth for repairs).
Plus various support cars. Does QR retain any state cars? (They could use GSPE cars.) Anything suitable preserved in WA or Tas?

I saw the Duke of Gloucester car ADH2 stored at South Dynon. Wasn't this one of the vice-regal or similar cars?

No. It was a Gloucester railcar.
Re the SAR Vice Regal car, I'm assuming it's not trafficable since it was last used in 1978. With the posible exception of the NSW Governor's car, all the others I mentioned are allowed on the main line.

Once items goto Port Dock, they never get used again. I remember that when Clyde had the celebrations a few years ago, they wanted Gm2 to be there but Port Dock would not allow it even though they were going to pay the expenses.

900 went into Port Dock in 1988. It came to Melbourne in October of that year, but was that before or after it went into the museum? It had been at Mile End since 1985.

Before being placed in the museum, however, No.900 made one final journey when it was towed by goods train to Melbourne and placed on display at the Austeam88 celebrations on 23rd October 1988"

Another car is GSR's SSA260 Special Service Car No.3 aka "Chairman's Car". It was built by Comeng in 1969 (part of the IP fleet) as new Vice-Regal car, but was named the Chairman's Car to avoid confusion with SSAF27. SSA260 carried Governor-General Sir Paul Hasluck on the inaugural Indian Pacific.
