No she doesn't have the patience.

Back on topic, do bus trips count?

My brother rode a bus home from Box Hill in peak time, where there's 15min frequency, and the bus ahead was 13min late! Eventually the driver of his bus actually overtook the one ahead, and then did a deal so the two swapped services. So he got onto an earlier service without changing vehicles!

Hi all,

This is my first posting to the Railpage Australia™ forums, so glad I found them Smile

My rarest journey, if you could call it a journey, would have been on one fine evening from the CBD to Narre Warren in early 1999. The train made it's usual stop at Dandenong station but seemed to take forever to take off. After what would have been 30 minutes everyone was told to alight the train. The passengers were then told that a train would be leaving on platform two. So we all boarded that train, however several minutes later that train was cancelled too. Then the train on platform one was going again. The gradually dwindling number of passengers boarded it before it was again cancelled. An announcement came through that busses would be taking people to the stations further down the track. During this time I had no idea why this was happening. After a mad hopeless scrabble to catch a bus, eventually the train on platform one was going to again. One and a half hours after the train orginally stopped it was off again, with passengers aboard. I later found out there had been a fire a couple of kilometres down the track and it seems that noone knew for sure whether the track would be safe to use. What a drama!

Hi all
this is my first time to this forum

I went on the Blue Train in South Africa when I was 16 years old
and I also went on a 14 day steam safari of South Africa riding behind some famous locos such as the Red Devil.
Also another highlight was walking across the Zambezi River Bridge in Zimbarbwe in Victoria Falls and seen a Passenger/Freight hauled by a Garratt Locomotive and getting photos of the train with Victoria Falls in the background.
Ive also been on trains throughout New Zealand as well

Regards
Andy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Smile

Not sure if this is rare or not, but none the less puzzling to a rail minded 10(ish) year old.

In the early 90's (90 or 91) I went to Ballarat on an Overland sitting car. The thing is that it was not the Overland, probably a Horsham or Dimboola pass as it was fairly early in the morning. The reason for the trip was a day trip with cubs to Sovriegn Hill.

Sorry Dave, you are wrong. I pilotted 86s in 1987, 1989 and 1992 as a driver (B4 I taught you and Craig Mr J.) from Redfern to Hornsby via shore. the passenger cars if you were correct looked a bit uncomfortable. they were classed NQJY, AQCY, etc.
Laughing

there is still a contingency plan for freight to run via shore line. ask the guys on RMC jobs.
guess who?

Donald to Melbourne via Echuca 1973.

whilst on loan for grain season 1973, i got 3 days off after finishing work, after the Donald day Railcar had left. I hitched a ride to Maryborough in a goods train second engine and fell asleep. I had been firing all night on a J and was very tired. I slept through Maryborough waking up as the diverted train arrived Castlemaine. I got off there and went to a pub, wearing VR overalls and boots and smelling somewhat of Loco. I had quite a few drinks and caught the van of what I thaugght was an Up goods, and promptly fell asleep. I awoke in Echuca, as I had caught the Deniliquin bound train. whilst it stopped for staff exchange and whatever I alighted and hithed a car ride to Bendigo where I waited 6 hours for an earlY morning Passenger. I spoke with station staff who got me a shower at the shunters humpy and a feed at some cafe near the station. I bought a ticket as in those days you had a quarter fare if a rail employee, and rang my old mum.
I was a green young Fireman 1st year at the time.
