Service 1M05 experienced a break in two at old Doboy Thursday am whilst on an inbound city service......the rear 2 coaches separated from the first 4 and the train became disabled near Murrarie.....

car 311 was hauled to redbank later that morning from the cannon hill end whilst cars 111/211 were hauled by a diesel down to Fishermans Isld to be turned on the coal train balloon loop and were hauled back to redbank later in the afternoon......

would undoubtedly have been the first EMU to travel the length of the non electrified branch

serious disruption to cleveland line passengers was caused in the am peak...

why the cars separated is unsure....they are connected by a bar that should not break

could have been a very serious incident

No, the Spirit of Capricorn trains (which are no more) were run by ICE sets.. the train being talked about here is a standard EMU train (service 1M05).. going by the car numbers, looks like EMU 11 was the culprit (anybody know what the other set was??).

Will be interesting to find out what caused the break-apart..

Train 1M05 departs Cleveland at 5:45am, so I'm guessing there wouldn't have been too many passengers on board at the time of the incident, which was probably lucky.

EMU 011 (and EMU 027) was also involved in the first derailment after Brisbane's Electrification in 1979. The Trinder Park derailment involved two trains which came head to head at 50km/h on the single track between Trinder Park and Kuraby in 1985. As far as I'm aware, the driver of the 'down' service lost their lives.

Cheers,
- Mick

ICE Units are not permitted on the Cleveland Line as they are out of gauge for the curved platform at Morningside.

ICEs have been on the Cleveland line before, just not in revenue service (either on tours or as test trains).

Cheers.

If morningside is causing problems wouldnt other 'curved platforms such as Wynnum North or Murrarie create the same problems?

i'd love to be on a platform with a camera for this! Ernest sr\treet bridge looking southbound at a northbound service peering around the corner would be a great ICE shot!!

The ICEs has been on nearly all lines. But at most times on the other lines (other from the usual runs to Nambour/Gympie North) they are either on tours and/or on test runs.

ICEs in the past have operated revenue service on Corinda<->Yeerongpilly shuttle and City<->Robina, I'm not sure if the ICE operated on the Ipswich<->Rosewood shuttles in the past.

Cheers.

This would be a good use for the ICE All stations Rosewood to Ipswich Then express to Corinda and express again to Roma street. Relieve the EMU/EMU doing the Rosewood shuttle or any other EMU/WMU heading that far out. Thus providing more suburban units for the much talked about (Here) 15 minute services. Although it may only provide 1 - 2 extra trains.... thats a start at least. And it is similar to other interurban services.

Cheers

I have been on ICE tour before when Trainaway Tours ran a tour way back in the early 90's around the suburb's with a ICE/EMU combo. The Train went to Beenleigh , Rosewood , Shorncliffe , Ferny Grove & Eagle Farm.

The tour however did not venture to Caboolture (ICE Trains allways on the Caboolture Line) and Cleveland (ICE Trains are longer than an EMU and hence the ends would swing out more hitting the platform at Morningside) . This was explained in the tour broucher.

Some test were conducted towards Cleveland of running EMU's at 120Km/H (or close to it) to see if they could keep up with ICE Units.

After the Dual Gauge was built you probally could take one to Cleveland but not under it's power as the dual gauge is not wired.

Isn't there a lack of power past Ipswich. ISTR the 3900s couldn't go past Ipswich for that reason. And even 3900s on pax trains were discouraged to Ipswich, if the last substation is at Corinda
