I think they had to change a couple of years because the correct shade was no longer manufactured. However, it's only a little bit off and when it fades it looks much the same Smile

Just wondering will 1BCE have steamrails wellow line under the windows?

SteamRail use a lighter shade of red, so it would need a complete reskin.

I allways thought they used the same shade of red? Oh well, you learn something new everyday Smile

The traditional VR "tomato red" is what you see on the MSTS models. SteamRail uses a shade which is (I think) the same as steam loco detailing (e.g. R and J class). It's very close to Signal Red.

You can get paint made up to any shade so that's not an issue. IIRC, the SteamRail livery is simply a continuation of the original Vintage Train livery. This is how the V cars, Pioneer, Enterprise and Yarra were painted in the 70s.

Cheers
David

Aaargh!!!

The wrong red?

Does this mean that my AW cars are wrong? I painted them to match the Steamrail cars, but I also have photographic evidence from the 50s/60s of freshly painted cars being that bright. I've tried to modify them to have an alternate version with faded paint, but my PSP skills aren't up to scratch - I seem to end up with strange green or blue hues! Damn...

Cheers,

It shouldn't really matter too much. Ex-works cars are always a bit brighter, plus older photography used different colour techniques which looked a bit washy compared to today. The AWs don't look out of place.

Fair enough. Just out of interest, though, could anyone with PSP7 experience advise me on the best way to change the colours?

Cheers,
Matt

OK, here goes ::

I used AWtex1.ace and fiddled around in PSP to get it to the correct colours.

To start changing the colours, go Colours | Adjust | Brightness/Contrast...

I changed the Brightness to -60, and the Contrast to -10.

Resulting in ::

Of course you'd only select the areas that you wanted to change.

Hope that helps Smile

You could also try de-saturating the colours in the image. However, I'm not sure how to do this in PSP.

The cupola view is starting to take shape now... Mr. Green

I haven't been in a BCE for quite some time, so one or two things may be off. :/

Just a new update on my progress. Smile The basic model is now finished, so I just have to tweak the .wag files a little bit and make a second set of textures for 1BCE with SECOND lettering. Cool
