There has been a large amount of non-news submitted to the News section lately. The News section is for just that - news, like you might read in a newspaper

In general terms, news should be topical and related to Australia or New Zealand. Major international news items may be added if it's a slow news day, but this doesn't always happen.

Please don't submit heresay, gossip, queries or sightings to News. This means don't submit any "I was told...." items as "news". If you can't verify the story, post it to the Forum as a query. The same applies to single line "I saw..." or "I got a photo of..." or "Does anybody know...?" items. These shouls also be posted to the Forum.

Please don't just submit a URL with "I think this is a really cool story" or "Look at what XYZ said about..." or similar as the summary. Submissions can be formatted in HTML, with proper anchors/hyperlinks to the originating site. Please don't add your own commentary/editorial to the body of a news item from another source.

If you have submitted a letter to the editor of a newspaper, you are welcome to submit it to News. Also if you represent a railway organisation in an official capacity and have the authority of that organisation to make announcements, you are welcome to submit as a Press Release.

Also check to see whether the same or a similar news item has already been posted. You may need to check the Topics or Stories Archive.

In any case, submissions may be edited for clarity or rejected at the discretion of the admins.

Some good tips for writing online news can be found here.

Cheers
David

Just a reminder that news submissions need to be marked up with standard HTML, not the forum BBCode. The only critical thing this applies to is links, which must be <A HREF="http://somesite">link name</A> and not [URL=http://somesite]link name[/URL].

Thanks to those who continue to submit news items that the news feed doesn't pick up.

Cheers
David
