One of my favourites Smile

I don't live in the area, but if anyone feels like saving the line in working order - right about now would be the time to start.

So many museum lines in Australia (I'm thinking particularly of Maldon, Daylesford, Healesville and Mornington down here, or God's own Dorrigo line) were in pretty bad way when they were finally taken over by volunteers.

The Healesville line, for example, had several condemned bridges and a freeze on resleepering towards the end, and closed when the fettlers certified it unsafe.

If only the volunteers had had access to these lines before they closed, generate a little cash from tourist trains and paraphenalia to pay for sleepers and bridge timbers. It costs a lot more to have to get a line reaccredited from scratch, when you can take it over in working order, albeit with speed restrictions.

Given that several bridges mentioned in the recent report that are due to be condemned, I think including the Emerald bridge, may be used as an excuse to close the line shortly, those people need to get cracking. If Dorrigo can't get their act together, Murwillumbah would be good for serving a market further north. Mr. Green

Unfortunately though, there are too many preserved lines in SE Queensland, which is nearby.
Beaudesert rail went into liquidation, the Ritz Rail stopped running due to low patronage.

I'm afraid there just isn't the patronage around to make preservation pay here. Sad Crying or Very sad
