Hi. I am working through one of the tuts on the Amabalis site for unwrapping. When I use the group selection tool it selects the faces ok, but any operation after that cancels the face selection... Am I doing something incorrectly?

The tool you need is not the group selection tool as this selects points within the defined selection area. You need to use the face selection tool (the one above it ) to select faces and hold down control as you left click on each face to include it in your selection.

Similarly, if you were to click a selected (or highlighted face) face while still holding down the control key it will become unselected and hence leave the other remaning faces as the were.

Further to what you stated, generally unwrap for texturing is not usually needed when building a locomotive or wagon for that matter. You can simply apply a texture with the paint brush tool and adjust it with the object operation tool to move it around on your newly textured face. The object operations tool is the one on your vertical right hand side toolbar and is the fourth button down from the top. After you have applied your texture, select this button and then click on the object or face that you just textured. Now, after youv'e done that you will need to use the edit control panel (Lower right hand side of your active window) to move, adjust, stretch or shrink your texture so that it will fit.

That said you will usually find that the above procedure is needed if.the object or face you are texturing is an odd shape or has a curvature to it. You can also use UVremap to alter the way your texture looks on an object or face, but thats another story.

Also use the help files contained within 3D Canvas Pro regarding texturing as they are a wealth of information. Start off small and play around with texturing a primitive such as a cube or cylinder and see what each texturing effect can do, thats the best way to learn.

Best of luck Smile
