From today's ABC News...

Plans have been finalised for the first museum dedicated to the pioneers of Australia's railway system.

The Railway Monument at Werris Creek, south-west of Tamworth in northern New South Wales, will feature the names of those who have died building Australia's railway system, and is expected to be completed by late next year.

Werris Creek is recognised as Australia's first railway town.

Project coordinator Bob McKillop says a central feature of the monument will be a large amphitheatre where special events can be staged.

"Most of the emphasis has been on the landscape design, by Jane Irwin, the landscape architect," he said.

"She's taken Dominic Sutton's basic ideas and looked at how the figures will represent different railway workers. We'll have six figures, and they'll be featured around a large strategic area."
