Coming back from Tarago on the weekend, I noticed there has been extensive construction work on a new intermodal at Cripps Creek. Cripps Creek is between Tarago and Bungendore. There is even new rail laid up to the huge concrete expanse where I assume the freight will be unloaded.
This is no new cheap construction with a purpose built road bridge into the complex, high powered lights etc. Does anyone have any more information on this complex?

Could you get a view on the the proposed number of roads being constructed at the site? Perhaps this is a non PN terminal?

From memory (and driving past at 100k's a hour) there were at least 3 rail lines into the concrete area. The concrete area was about the size of a football field and there was a small building.
The complex is located on the other side of Cripps creek to the Tarago-Bungendore Rd so a concrete 2 lane bridge has been built over the creek. I also noticed a fair bit of road upgrading in the area, presuamblyto handle trucks into and out of the intermodal.

After hunting around on the internet, I discovered that it is a waste transfer station.
Basically Collex has won a contract to process Sydney waste at Clyde, put the waste on a train and send it to intermodal (actually referred as Woodlawn).
Trucks will then transport the waste to the old Woodlawn mine 8 kms away and it will be dumped in the mine. It seems everyone is happy about the intermodal but a few Clyde residents are annoyed at the prospect of 200 garbage trucks a day dumping waste at Clyde awaiting processing and shipping.

AIUI the waste will be containerised, but the terminal was designed for RoadRailers as well.

That was FreightCorp's original idea when transferring rubbish by rail was first proposed a decade ago (May 1993, from memory). Back before Woodlawn closed (March 1998) they were talking about using Stockrington No.2 as the waste dump. The catch was that NR (or it may have still been AN in the first instance) had the sole rights to RoadRailer technology. PN should now have that option, unless somebody else wins the contract. But building the terminal with provosion for RoadRailers is a smart move.
Cheers
David
