The thing listed Amtrak Texas Eagle as one of the great train joueny..I always thought Chief/Emipre Builder/Cal. Zepher are better? Oriental Express between PAris and Istanbul has been shorten for years, AND BLUE TRAIN RUNNIGN BETWEEN PRETORIA-VICTORIA FALL? I would like to see that
Sunlander's Queenslander class missing, Tranz Alpine missing, Canadian missing. Oh well.... |
1) The Canadian is probably the BEST fulltime regular service passenger train in the world.
2) Both the Blue Train and Rovos Rail were regularly running to Victoria Falls until a year or two ago, when both track conditions and the political situation in Zimbabwe became too sticky.
3) The shortened OE was finally cancelled last year, but a Swiss Company had been running regular tours to Istanbul with preserved Wagon Lits stock until they went into receivership last year.

Hence some of those listed in the AGE should not consider to be "greatest train journeys" today.
Do you consider VSOE as one of the greatest?

Considering you can do all of the various VSOE trips on regular trains at much lower prices? What do you think?
