Came across some interesting photos recently of the siding to the Berwick Quarry. All about 1906. It's not mentioned in the 1909 or 1927 grades book, so I assume it was closed prior to 1909? It appears to have taken off on the Up side of Clyde Rd and headed straight for the (Old) Princes Highway where it curved around parallel to the road. It appears not to have actually entered the quarry and all loading was done by horse & cart into the waiting wooden bodied trucks.
Anyone know any more?

Anyone know any more? | No, but I would like to. I don't know if I saw it on a map once, or just imagined it, but I thought that the siding diverged roughly south of the quarry then headed due north to the quarry. Are you saying that it was closer to Clyde Road than that then paralleled the Princes Highway for some distance, or am I reading too much into your description?
As you say it didn't appear to go into the quarry, did it actually cross the highway or did it terminate on the south side?
Is it possible for you to post the pictures, or at least give any more of a description of them?

I'd have to scan them...
One photo shows a compound V class (5xx) and a Z van with wooden bodied 4 wheelers. The other shows the loading point with wooden bodied 4 wheelers. It's south of the old highway. There's also an aerial shot that clearly shows the alignment heading off towards the quarry from Clyde Rd.
Compound V class were all converted about 1912, so it's prior to then.

It stop on the south side of the Highway and the quarry is where Wilson Bontanical park is. it was a spur line and also there is remains of a siding on the City Bound side at Berwick Station !!!.
A lot of Station uses to have Sidings, Officer (logs), Cranbourne(???, Narre Warren (logs, Hallam's Road (now hallam Station?
But what get me is the Bit of disused overhead with no track between Noble Park and Sandown Park (Sandown Side of Heatherton Road)? What are the Orgin of that track used's.

The stanchions near Sandown Park are at the site of the original Sandown Park station. They may have been storage sidings. The 'Spring Vale' Cemetary line crossed the highway on the level and went in to the 'Necroplois' as it was known. Long before the race track was there. Don't know much about it.

A lot of Station uses to have Sidings, Officer (logs), Cranbourne(???, Narre Warren (logs, Hallam's Road (now hallam Station? | I don't recall seeing anything about Hallam ever having sidings, but it may have. Beaconsfield did have one also; you can still see an overhead stanchion for it. Berwick, Officer, and Narre Warren certainly did also, in relatively recent times, not specifically for logs, but I'm not certain just what the major traffic was. Cranbourne had a goods yard also, plus, in earlier times, a privately-operated siding to a sand quarry. There was also a sand siding between Beaconsfield and Officer, and a siding near the proposed station adjacent to the Lakeside estate at Pakenham. And there were probably others also...| Eaglemist wrote: | | The 'Spring Vale' Cemetary line crossed the highway on the level and went in to the 'Necroplois' as it was known. I got a bit more info about the Beaconsfield sidings and they were where
St Francis school is. a Tramway used to go from Glismans Road crosses the Old Highway and through the school!!!.
There was the Siding between Officer and Beconsfield where Brunt Road is. Brunt road was a Tramway for logging and used to meet up at the Officer side of Brunt Road and on the Pakenham Bound line is now!!!.
