Anthony,

Some shots from a activity I have been running on the FootBall Route..

Note have now removed some of the images as the route is available from
Steam4me..!

Hope you like them and give you an idea of running this line....
(It is great!!)
Smile

Activity:to Run the local Freight to Ballarat

K160 Approaches sunshine from Brooklyn with a D3 running the
Bendigo Pass also approaching Sunshine.

D3 685 finally passes giving our train right of way.

The Overland passes through but we are still held for..

At Bungaree, another Up local freight is held over due to our late running.

For a relief crew to take over..!!

Total time for activity (keeping under 70kph/35mph) 3.5 hours..

Hope it gives you an idea of what you can do with this line..

It really is the next best thing to actually driving the prototype!

Regards

Richard

Probably very high. And if the route isn't packaged with them, surely someone will make some. I wouldn't mind being in charge of the shunting operations at Bacchus Marsh of passes. on a weekday morning. I find passenger train shunting activities/watching in real life quite fun. Wouldn't it be great if MSTS had a train control sort of system put into place in the next version (MSTS2) where you are the signaller/shunter/point switcher in place of the driver? <sort of like PC-Rail> And then get to watch the movements from the signalbox? I'd love to do that at Bacchus. <please dont start sending posts re: last comment in this topic, it is totally unrelated>.

Cheers,
Matt Julian

Very Happy shunting will be a possibility as
all the yard tracks are in at ballarat along with the sidings at doveton st,
bunge, joe white maltings a compressed workshops and timken
but i havent placed the Eureka sidings and the redan cattle yards yet due to a shortage of info
but im onto a source and hope to include these on the ver 2 patch

In the words of Bruce McAvaney

"..special"

I feel very lucky to be able to access such great work and gain so much pleasure from it. Thanks to Russell and all the people involved in this epic project.

Yes, my sentiments exactly Nick. The work put into this route alone, is nothing short of incredible in my view and this is from a retired "hands on" railwayman.

PS. That is some activity Richard, the screen pics look excellent.

John.

Another great feature Russel has built in is the yard cam.

These are locate at all stations, Tottenham and Ballarat and yards enruote..

You simply press the "7" key, and if you are within the yard limits, you have a roving cam to run up and down the yard whilst shunting etc..

Sound for trains are limited to the .sms file specs..

i.e. if distance is set to 1000 metres, and you go past 1000 metres,
you will need to return to the engine via cams 2-3-4 in order to get the sound back.

I have found on my system, that I can also "bolt" ahead (using a combination of *"shift/right mouse button"when stuck at a red, and see where the on coming train is.. (gives me time to have a make a coffee or go for a "twinkle" knowing the traffic is still 10 minutes off!

*This may depend on your system specs..

Anyway, glad you like the pics..

Regards

Richard

Richard,

Talk about "ask and you shall receive ..."

Thanks very much for the screenshots, can't wait for the activity!

I had a minor problem with the last few images loading as red crosses - would this be a time out due to the size of the files?

Love the "putting away" moves at Melton, reminds me of the time I saw double Cs on a Jet put away at Ballan in the relief so up and down Ballarat passes could pass one another!

Thanks also for the detail about the routre and the activity!

Keep up the great work!

Anthony

I can't believe that. That is absolutley outstanding. May I ask how long it has taken you to create this route?

Russel, I understand spent over a year in the making..

Having been up and down the route (motorcading/passenger..) it is
pretty well to scale..

Gradients are right on the mark.. If you have Triple C's with about 45 in tow.. maximum speed up the bank is about 20kph..

Even double headed D3/K on 14 car Vintage Train, gets up at around 30kph so between the locos and the route, gives you a "really" good idea of how to test your locos and driving skills..

If you turn "auto-pilot" off for fireman on steam.. it is even more work!!

Regards

Richard

I've also been over that route heaps of times as a passenger and I've motorcaded heaps of trains on it. I can't find anything wrong with Russell's MSTS version. Very Happy

Russel: When the route is released would you have any objections to me extending the line to linton? Just for my personal use only.
