Although most people appear to have downloaded the route or patch without any problems, there have been a few who have had problems.

Checking the route with Route Control will show several consists as missing, this is not actually the fault, RC checks all the Services and if one of those refers to a missing consist then a 'Missing Consist' message appears. The actual fault is that I left some .srv files in the route which were for testing purposes, they are not called in any activities, so should be removed:-

42pass.srv
coal ex newnes.srv
container freight-Lithgow Yard.srv
empty to Newnes coal.srv
Mt Vic-Pen Vset.srv
NR WB Freight.srv
Tangara to Springwood.srv
Vset to Katoomba.srv
Vset to Lithgow.srv
Vset to Mt Victoria.srv

2. I have noticed that there is no path to cover the Zig-Zag railway, so will fix that soon.

3. David Rowe has managed to produce a set of Distant Mountain tiles which look good on the route (However please note that in the absence of Australian DEM data, these are generic Distant Mountains). I will enclose these with the above fix.

4. I have also been sent new versions of a couple of the shapes/textures in the route, so these will also be included in the fix.

WHERE TO FROM HERE:

I have been considering re-building the route to include the Shale Oil Railway to Newnes - This would turn it into a steam era railway and would involve removing all the gantries and electric signalling, and changing stations cars etc.

However there is a nice model of a Shay locomotive similar to those used to Newnes, and I could build some suitable rolling stock. Would there be any interest in this as something a bit different?

Any help in the shape of photos of the Wolgan valley railway, good map of the route etc. would be appreciated. I have a copy of Newnes, a history of a Oil Shale town.

Cheers - Mike.

G'day Mike,
The following would be a great help if you are to re-produce the Wolgan - Valley shale line . The book is named THE SHALE RAILWAYS OF N.S.W. by G. H. EARDLEY & E. M. STEVENS produced by The australian Railway Historical society. This book has detailed maps of the Track layout , building locations along the route & detailed old photos & sketches.
Katoomba also had shale sidings used in conjunction with the shale mine in the Megalong & Jamison valley. The Scenic Railway at Katoomba is part of the Original Shale haulage railway.

Hi Old_C38,

Yes, I saw that at the Model Railway Exhibition at Liverpool yesterday, unfortunately it was about $55 which I did not have spare at the time. Maybe Christmas will bring a copy??

Looks like I will need to get a copy if this project is to proceed fully.

Hi Mike,
Sure would, I think is a good idea and on right track. I'm not an electric train person, (those ugly wires, no refection Mike, just me) but it is nice having a route from the steamer days, with no wires or electric signals. Personally, steamers need to be shown in routes of their era. You will have best of both worlds, present route (electrics), and a steam route (steam), satisfy and keep both camps happy. Wink

John.

Hi John,

Thanks for the response, I will have a go at doing it, but will take a while, I have a lot of old photos, but all black/white - maybe should do it all in sepia-tone ?

Hi Mike,
Now that's an idea,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, an MSTS Route in sepia-tone like the old day's B&W pictures made into one colour,,, sepia.
Er but hang on, the real route would have been in colour back then, though to some these days, the old days as seen on TV, movies, etc were B&W, no colour in those days, something like eggs come from Supermarkets, not from chooks. Laughing (Fowls to those who do not know what chooks are)

Jokes aside, if you go ahead with it Mike, take ya time, there is no rush, you gotta enjoy doing it as well. Wink I/we can be patient.
