3801 at Hilltop!!
"Ride On stranger"
TV mini series on ABC TV, 11.10 PM Thursday night. (started last night, sorry)
This has many train scenes throughout, mostly cutting room floor clips from the filming of "A Steam Train Passes" provided by Film Australia, Including that great shot of 3801 southbound and heading into NSW's deepest cutting at Hilltop on the "boring" part of the Picton-Mittagong loop line (the section RTM has abandoned 'cause they think the scenery is boring and they don't want to wear out their operating locos climbing that big hill!). This scene is featured at the end of each episode.
SAVE EVELEIGH! Once the largest industrial complex in Australia. The Smithsonian Institute described Eveleigh as “the most important historic railway workshops remaining in the world

"Global Village" on SBS at 6pm on Monday 25th has a segment of railway interest.
This program regularly has fascinating items relating to railways from around the world - a week or two ago there was a terrific program about the Dajeeling railway in India.
They seem to repeat them quite often, so it's worthwhile keeping an eye on the programming

"Foreign Correspondent" on Channel 2 at 9.20pm next Tuesday, 3rd October has as it's second item a story on the restoration of a line, I presume in the Middle East somewhere, with suitably aged trains hauled by steam locomotives, to recreate the era and atmosphere of the time of Lawrence of Arabia.
This week they showed what was claimed to be "the last wood fired locomotive in the world" on a tourist train in Paraguay.

Don't know if many of the young'ns would know about it, but some of you might remember the BMW ad from years ago filmed using the NZ Kingston Flyer (Ab Class from memory). About 3 minutes of footage played during the golf (which equals big bucks), but lovely cinematography without any speech (bar the last 30 seconds with the BMW slogan "The Ultimate Driving Machine". Worth a look at if you can land your hands on a copy.

One of the best train films in recent years was Tough Guys, with Kirk Douglas and the late Burt Lancaster. This is the one were they wreck the Southern Pacific GS4 loco in the end of the film.
It does not get really wrecked, some scenes were filmed with a live steam sized model and the locomotive siting in the dirt is made of canvas and wood!
